First visit under new ownership: friendly welcome on arrival. Sympathetic refurb. Love eating in the conservatory on a sunny day - rear door opened for fresh air! Delicious lunch and great selection including Gluten Free options. Very quick to clear empty plates - could be left a little longer, but we weren't in a rush and they weren't busy. Will be back soon to try a Sunday lunch. Highly recommended. Walkability: Just a 5 minute walk from the main Bailgate area. On-street parking and local car parks. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free catered for with advanced notice.
Would definitely recommend the tasting menu. Absolutely fantastic service and the chef seemed very invested in giving us the best experience. The venue was lovely too, relaxed yet cozy. Overall, the perfect choice for celebrating our special occasion and would definitely visit again.Food: 5/5
A great place if you want food that is prepared slightly differently with wonderful flavours. The Wine list is quite select and in a range of prices to satisfy most pockets. The service is very very good and any questions are happily answered. No doubt we will return again.Food: 5/5
Asparagus starter lovely butter beans with a great dressing . Sunday roast beef main, perfectly presented and freshly cooked vegetables followed by a Rhubarb bakewell. Served by a knowledgeable staff in pleasant surroundings. Fab start to lovely afternoonFood: 5/5
Just had a lovely meal at The Old Bakery. The braising beef was like cutting butter, so tender. Service was friendly and attentive.Food: 5/5
The best meal we have had in an age. Brodie greeted us and looked after our every need. We selected the tasting menu which was fantastic. He explained all the paired wines with skill. Honestly the best service we have ever had. Felt like we were in an episode of Masterchef. The atmosphere and decor of the venue was relaxed but with an air of fine dining, beautiful linens and great glassware. 10/10, would definitely recommend.
Excellent food go service, The Old Bakery has been taken over my Lincoln college, I believe that the head chef is staying, so first visit under new management, staff friendly and welcoming, the service excellant and the food brillant as you would expect. They will be doing a seven course taster meal end of January, would go back. Called for Sunday lunch today staff welcoming and great service.
Went for Sunday lunch, really good value for money at 24.95 for three courses. I had soup, beef and chocolate delice, my partner had mackerel, venison and the banana pudding and a cheeseboard. The bread was tasty and the amuse boucher was okay. The soup was great, velvety and nice flavour, the mackerel starter was a big portion and the skin ok the fish wasn't torched but that was a minor fault. The beef brisket was soft and delicious, the portions were good sizes. Roast potatoes not very crispy but good flavour. The venison main was slightly misleading on the menu as it mention a sweet potato cake and it wasn't expected that the venison would come incorporated into the cake, it wasn't to my taste personally. Both desserts were delicious! We also took a toddler with us and they were very accommodating to say it doesn't give the vibe of being suitable for young families as they do not supply high chairs but we had no problem taking our own. The venue itself was lovely, cozy and full of character and then staff were attentive and thorough.
Was expecting a lovely meal based on a recent recommendation. However to be very honest the food was tasteless, over priced and served at a very low temperature, nearly cold. The menu states the food is served warm not hot. I asked why meals were served warm? The waitress answered, we cook everything to order, and by the time we serve your meal the food will be warm not hot. I’ve never heard of that before. We won’t be going back, there are much better restaurants close by.
Excellent food and the paired wines were spot on! Tasting menu was well balanced and quantity was well judged. We didn't have the optional cheese course but those with bigger appetites would have enjoyed it, I'm sure. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Smallish rooms but then, it's a very old building and so it's a good use of the space available! Breakfast was delicious and very relaxed as there's a maximum of just three double rooms!
