What an incredible place. Firstly, it absolutely blew my mind how big it is! You will need a full day if you want to explore all of it! As a veteran myself, it was particularly poignant, seeing the memorials and indeed, the names of men I knew was very touching. I would recommend everyone visit here at least once, and stand and remember those who have gone before and given their lives for our freedoms.
I visited the National Memorial Arboretum on a beautiful, sunny day in August, and it left a deep impression on me. This sacred place honors the soldiers and people who bravely gave their lives in countless battles, with over 400 memorials dedicated to various formations. Each tree is a living tribute to someone who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve others. The visitor center is welcoming, fully accessible, and well-equipped, and the peaceful surroundings are beautifully maintained. This is a place that must be seen, visited, and remembered—a moving tribute to our heroes. Their legacy lives on in every tree and memorial. Glory to the heroes.
Going to a memorial place, I was expecting a quiet place where you feel like whispering is appropriate and reflecting in silence about all these heroes who died for our freedom. Instead of that, we found a lively place, nice and smiley staff, stunning gardens, modern buildings and toilets and of course all sorts of tributes to the differents army corps, illustrated with beautiful sculptures. The grounds are massive, but you can hop on a small train which will take you for a round trip of 30 minutes. There was also a large stage with a jazz band, singers and children performing acts and singing. I have to say that the sound was excellent too. There is also a huge dinning room, very clean and the food was great too. Dogs are welcome and you can picnic if you want to. There is more to say about this place, you'll have to see it by yourself! I do not often give a 5 stars, but in that case, I think it deserves it.
150 acres of tributes for our brave armed forces & from the commonwealth. I think from 2st WW to today. When we were there remembering my wife's brother K Ricketts it was very overcast and started to rain then thunder, it was like being in a war zone with flashes of lighting and very loud thunder. The only thing I find strange is that they have a Stick Man trail, our guid said it was to get youngsters engaging in the memorial, Stick Mans for up to the age of 6-7. Do we want to get them involved in Death! Do take a buggy ride with guide its well worth it. £7-50 each for 45 minutes. Restrooms: Once our main building, I only saw 1 toilet a long way from other toilets.
My 2nd visit here. It’s sad to see the names on the main monument being added, but what a beautiful place. It’s a poignant reminder of history and what we shouldn’t be repeating, of the sacrifices made by our heros in many walks of life. The land train looked a good way to get around whilst receiving a commentary.
We love the arboretum! The 1944 exhibition is so wonderfully put together and the children can do a little scavenger hunt. The stick man trail is great and you see so much along the route. It's a great place to teach the children about remembrance and so much more. 2nd time visiting and won't be the last, we really enjoy it.
My son and I visit most weeks to spend time at the tree of cherished memories where I have a leaf for my late husband. The Arboretum is such a beautiful peaceful place I especially love it along the river. Each time we visit we see something new. Everyone that works there is helpful friendly and informative Restrooms: Very clean and tidy. Always well stocked. Dog-friendliness: Great walk for the dog. Wheelchair and buggie friendly. Need to keep dog on short lead. Some restricted areas. Child’s playground and armed forces memorial. Allowed in designated areas in restaurant. Plenty of outdoor seating
Not only is this a wonderful tribute to the many millions of people throughout history who have given their lives to the defence of our nation and our beliefs but it is run by some of the most caring and helpful people I have met. From the moment we arrived needing 2 mobility scooters and a wheelchair, we were met with smiling faces and significant efforts to make the day memorable for my octogenarian family. The fact that is free excepting a small car parking charge says everything you need to know. So go, take the children to give them a sense of the good fortune bestowed upon them and spend money in the cafe awesome cake! to support this amazing piece of British heritage.
Great day out, peaceful with lots of memorials & memories about our fallen heroes. Massive grounds beside the river so fantastic for a walk on a sunny day. Lots of benches to take a rest all around the memorials. Good cafe with hot food & coffee & cake shop too.Train runs around the whole site & has audio to explain each memorial. Train tour is 45 minutes. Tip book parking online & save .£6 parking fee if not pre booked. Train tour is £7 50 per adult. Great place to remember the sacrifices our armed forces made & still to this day !
Beautifully kept with friendly and knowledgeable Volunteers. Amazing sculptures and poems and I particularly liked the European oak sentinels. Overall, a thought-provoking experience and a place for quiet contemplation but also for enjoying the facilities. Restrooms: Very clean and well planned.
