We visited today and 10/10 for the wonderful staff, both in the museum and the cafe. Everyone was super-friendly and helpful and made us very welcome. We visited the Earthbound exhibition on the top floor on until January 2026 and it was fascinating, hugely varied and easily the same level as London exhibits in, say, The Science Museum or Tate Modern.nnI have mobility issues so I was chuffed to see loads of seats to have small rests on and a spacious lift to all floors.nnWe also had tasty food in the cafe and flat white that hit the spot.nnIf you haven't been, go. If you have, go again!
We called into the museum to use up a couple of hours before catching a train later that afternoon.nnIt would have been easy to spend more time here. It's a free museum with donations welcomed - and in my opinion thoroughly deserved.nnOver four floors there are a huge selection of artifacts showing how Derby was in at the start of the Industrial Revolution and still continues to be important - it's hard to miss the Trent engine hanging above you! Staff were helpful when required and the exhibits have been displayed in an imaginative way, making good use of the building and natural light.
A brilliant blend of history and innovation! The museum beautifully showcases Derby’s industrial past while offering hands-on exhibits and creative spaces. Friendly staff, inspiring displays, and a great riverside setting make it well worth a visit. Perfect for all ages!
Here are some pictures from my outing to the Museum of Making in Derby. It's definitely worth a visit! The museum is beautiful, the exhibits are fascinating, and the staff are wonderful. There are also plenty of activities for children. I was tempted to try a few myself and discovered that the sport I should be doing is archery! Plus, the museum is free to visit.
I visited the place on a week day. The staff were nice, and they were lifting a bull and added it to the exhibition. The museum shows the history of the area during the Industrial Revolution, but it seemed to be still under development.
