Christmas party with work colleagues was really good. The food was lovely, I have never had a bad meal at The Morritt. The only reason I have given 3 stars for service was because of the lack of bar staff. One young lad on his own for most of the time. He did amazing and didn't lose his cool once. Hats off to him. Really pleasant and totally unflappable. It was a shame because there must have been 100+ people booked in for the same event, so perhaps they could have arranged more staff, as they knew how many they were catering for. Having said that it was a brilliant night, enjoyed by all, and we will certainly consider The Morritt again next year.
Mostly a lovely stay. Beautiful old building, mostly well kept, several places to sit and relax, lovely grounds. The staff are, mostly, amazing, friendly, accommodating. One of the best things about this hotel. The food is extremely good, they truly deserve their culinary reputation. The spa is small but delightful, and our masseurs were excellent. Sadly our spa visit was marred by there not being robes big enough for us: him 6'3 medium build, me 5'2 plump The girl just said they were in the wash and she couldn't do anything for us for about 1¾ hours! As it turned out she made no attempt to find us and give us new ones later. Also, on the minus side, we had to move rooms because the superior room no.15 we booked and paid for had tiny windows which were frosted over so you could not see out at all. We were moved to a not superior room which had big windows with the sun shining through. No.4 if you're asking we overheard another guest complaining of the same thing, so if you like to look out ask for a room without frosting! Any issues we had, and there were quite a few sadly, were, mostly, dealt with professionally and the staff again get a shout out there.
Beautiful hotel, enjoyed our stay very much. apart from the crazy snow! Staff were lovely, even the manager was out clearing snow off customers cars the next day. Buffet breakfast was lovely. Hotel was gorgeous in the snow though. Would definitely come back. Rooms: Rooms were lovely. Tea/ coffee making available, iron and ironing board, hairdryer all available in the room. Large shower.
If you ever have to go up North close to Barnard Castle, I would highly recommend The Morritt Hotel for a stay. Lovely place and the surrounding are amazing. Wish I could stay there for some more days and enjoy their hospitality. The staff are amazing and very helpful. The hotel also allows pets. Rooms: Nice clean and cosy rooms Food & drinks: Variety of choice at the Bar and restaurant
Excellent Christmas Lunch served by cheerful competent staff in a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere. Busy but not crowded restaurant easily accessible for everyone regardless of mobility. I have no hesitation in recommending the Christmas Day lunch, having visited others in the area I will be returning to this venue next year.
Good: Great food, the staff was really helpful, breakfast was good. Internet worked perfectly. Not so good: Bedroom is old and the mattress is really toooooo soft, I don't know if the room temperature could be changed, but for me was comfortable, TV on my bedroom was big, but didn't work properly no channels at all, I didn't ask staff to fix it as I only stay for a night, WC Issues with the shower drain, but the pressure and temperature was ok. I would stay again but in different bedroom. Food & drinks: Good kitchen! Great staff!
Traveling for work, I had drive over four and half hours and decided to book Barnard Castle's "Luxury" hotel as stated on their website. Room was well priced and I had paid extra in advance for breakfast and a three course dinner, as well as 3hour Spa session. The hotel looked lovely from the exterior but was quite dated inside, especially the room - very old drab curtains and tatty faded framed pictures. Up there in the top 5 worst rooms I've ever had. Bathroom was ok. Food was very good though, especially the Cauliflower Pakora starter. Staff were friendly and helpful. Another disappointment was that I received a phone call the day before my arrival to advise that the spa was closed on the day I was checking in so I was unable to use.
I took my wife there for our Christmas dinner and it was the first time I've ever had a cold Christmas dinner with almost raw green vegetables. The service can only be described as appalling. Such a shame as we are staying in the locality over the festive period, having travelled up from Surrey, as the hotel had so much potential.
We only stayed for one night and were extremely disappointed. The rooms were extremely noisy. Walls made of paper clearly. I think there was a wedding party or something - blaring music and shouting until the early hours, which started up again with music in the corridors at about 6am - very surprising that staff/owners would allow this. Another let down was the breakfast. Staff were rude and unhelpful. Will not be returning to this hotel and would not recommend to anyone.
A night away with Dinner Bed and Breakfast. Spa was or should have been a bonus. Firstly be warned there are various different prices for the spa, the ones online, the ones in a booking email, and the ones on the TV in your room! The spa staff were friendly and helpful and stated the boiler wasn't working, but we're open might just be cooler than normal, things happen and we were OK with this; we were given a tour before hand. However on using, the warm tub was hotter than the hot tub, the steam room was dry and room temperature, the outside tub we used as a plunge pool after the dirty sauna, the outdoor bucket shower dropped metal bars onto you and the other outdoor shower was scalding hot and exiting from broken pipe work, there was screws also scattered about the floor outside. We went to have complimentary coffee which was also cold! This was certainly the worse part of the stay and was feeling very disappointed. However we went on to do the Mud Rasual Treatment which was great, and that steam room was working perfectly. The Back Massage afterwards was equally fantastic. The spa in summary, facilities are very poor and evident there not checked let alone maintained, but the treatments and staff were great! For the Stay we had a outdoor room booked as we thought it would be easier with our dog, but our room was changed with no discussion. The Room was spotless, comfortable just a little dated and tired in places. Dinner was very good, again friendly staff and good service, same goes with the bar and breakfast. A nice stay, great treatments, staff are mostly friendly and helpful, food and drinks great. The Hotel is a little tired but clean. The spa itself I'm afraid is appalling.
