I was walking down the high street with a friend of mine when he meat a friend of his that said we should look around as it was an open day, so we did and it was an educational trip where we learnt about how the courts used to work look at an old town census went to the roof and heard the bells ring, a lot as it was midday. very nice place and staff well worth a trip.
Moot Hall was such a good choice to visit, as was Maldon in general. Steve our guide was a wealth of information with his knowledge of the hall and its chequered history. For any local or visitor who loves history, Moot Hall should not be missed.
We had booked a tour of the building online. The tour guide was very informative and the building is a little gem of history. The view from the roof is really spectacular and the history of the place is immense. It has been a private residence, a court room, council rooms and prison. It has the most beautiful spiral staircase. Well worth a visit
The Moot Hall was a wonderful venue for a December 2020 wedding. We were very lucky to be able to move our date at short notice due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They were very responsive with any queries we had and we would recommended the Moot Hall to anyone who wishes to hold their wedding there.
I was the only person to turn up for a guided tour and how lucky I was! It was an amusing and informative tour packed with history. Every floor was a surprise, ending on the roof with fine views and a chance to stand next to the town bells as they rang. I particularly enjoyed the court room and prisoners exercise yard. Probably not a tour for children but if you like your English history you are in fir a treat!
