Decent and close spot to grab some grub after Waddeson Manor. The soup of the day was just OK spicy lentil and potato crisp, wasn't spicy and the potato crisps were a bit burnt. Service was just OK as well. Unless you're starving, head to MK.
Very friendly. Welcoming. Looked like a good choice on the menu. We ordered chicken supreme roast and pork roast. It arrived swimming in watery gravy. Roast potatoes were hard and tasted overcooked, you know when you make them, let them cool down then reheat. The veg was hard and tasteless. The meat was good. The food was served lukewarm, not hot. Maybe ordering something not roast would have been better. Last time we were here we had baked camembert and it was delicious. For the price, it’s a disappointment. £14.50 for chicken and £13.50 for pork.
Our first experience out of lockdown...finally got hokdvif some self raising flower. Lovely vegetarian burger and drinks and strawberries to go. Thanks!!
We had high hopes for this "gastro pub". We didn't have a starter. We had 1 Sirloin Steak and a Porchetta Roulade. My steak was supposed to be medium rare and in truth it was really a rare steak. I left the middle bit as it was too bloody. The chips were triple cooked, but were over done. They were certainly not golden!!! The Porchetta was rather dry. Nothing to get excited about. The Dessert was bizarre. My friend had the Limoncello and Lime Tart with French Meringue. There were some blobs of something that tasted of nothing and the tart case appeared empty. No filling at all. I had ice cream for dessert, however it was presented in an old enamel pie dish that had seen better days. See photo. Is it really acceptable to present this to a customer? Not shabby chic!! Not easy to understand the thought process with that. I would rather have had it on a paper plate!! Coffee was so strong, we couldn't drink it. We were told it was the type of coffee and they used 3 shots. The cappachino was better, but also strong! They are trying too hard! To add insult to injury they charged us service charge. Apparently, it is stated on the menu!! When looking at a menu I do not tend to look at the small print. Lesson learned!! I still take exception to somebody who feels they can put a price on their service. I will decide if they are getting a tip. It was an average meal and the reason we didn't say too much at the time - though we had to complain about the Coffee! It was like Tar. The waitress said that is how they serve their coffee. We tried Cappuccino and I didn't like it. Too bitter . My friend did drink hers. All pubs and restaurants need all the customers they can get!! I understand that. We won't be going there again. We tried it in 2018 and it was not good then, but my friend suggested it so I went along with it. I will go to the Five Arrows next time.
The long dog has a warm, inviting appearance. There’s lots to love about this country pub at its exterior, but look closer to some of the detail, sleek, lower cased menu, mannerisms of front of house and you soon see that it’s bolstering it’s self up for a more up-market dining experience. It certainly delivered. Dinning for two, taking a burger and rib eye off the new menu, led to two plates of food, bursting with flavour. Leaves jumped from the plate, that had a satisfyingly crisp, full taste; certainly this plate of food had not been sitting around on the pass longer than needed for it to be plated. Service was friendly, informative inviting you to take part in the menus that are designed for sharing, attentive but not insincere. My partner and I tend to eat quite quickly - and lingering over each process gets frustrating for us - this was picked up on quick, and our host, Alexandra, was fantastic. Vibrant personality, she saw us through from start to finish with ease. Impressive for what I believe was her second shift, and testament to front of house team who were clearly working as a well oiled machine. We left wanting to make a point of saying goodbye to our host and passing our thanks to the kitchen - this is a good thing. Top marks to the team at the long dog, unlike other reviews, and in my opinion, this isn’t a pass through pub for ease or speed, this is a drive out of your way 30 minutes to find and eat specifically for their menu and service. We will return.
We went for a mid week meal and sat in the courtyard, which was most relaxing. The staff were attentive and we were well looked after. We had burgers and chips, which is an unusual order for us. The burgers were delicious with black buns, juicy patties and an in-house made sauce. A most enjoyable meal, well done Chef Matteo and staff. We will return.
Had the most amazing Sunday roast with the family in the beautiful back garden with the dogs. The kids devoured their food which is always a good sign and the cost wasn’t steep at all. Very friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be going back.
After following this pub decided to drive out and try the roast pork Sunday dinner. Very disappointed the pork itself was very nice as well as the vegetables. However the food was cold, the roast potatoes where reheated and bland with no signs of roasting. And the gravy was like reheated water. The front of house girls were lovely polite and attentive. However the men seemed not to smile and and where quite moody
Stopped in for some lunch after shopping at Bicester village and so glad we did. The manageress was very friendly and chatty, and soon the conversation turned to our two long dog's . The pub is very nicely decorated and a lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent very well presented and my partner was blown away by dessert, the best she's ever had apparently.
What a shame! The staff were friendly and service was goodie was clean and tidy. I had the roasted Chicken supreme. The Vegetables accept the potatoes were reasonable the flavour of the chicken was very good. The potatoes were burnt and the Yorkshire pudding had a does consistency. My partners food was over cooked too. We didn't have dessert because the main courses were not very good. Not massively expensive until you factor in the food was bad.
