Now this is a quaint coastal town with a great pub on its main shopping street. We aren't locals but were still made very welcome by Jack who served us well kept beers and fantastic food. The pie was rich and my beef rib was amazing... accompanying veg' were done just right too. It's clear that this was beyond 'pub grub', thank you Chef! Between Jack's welcome and Paul's farewell we'd been made to feel like regulars, eaten well, chatted and watched the world go by. A restful Saturday lunch in a venue I can't wait to visit again. Thanks to all at The Lock and Barrel, Frinton-on-Sea.
Excellent food and service! We'll definitely be back thank you
VERY POOR, had fish and chips and mushy pea's, also tarta sauce. The chips were dark brown and hard, the tarta sauce was not good a bad taste and the mushy pea's tasted foul, like nothing like mushy pea's. I Called the waiter over and made a complaint, told him how foul the mushy pea's tasted. He returned a little later saying they were the same as usual, no different than usual. I again said that they taste bad but nothing. Will not be coming here ever again, we spent £36.05 on rubbish, they never offered a discount when paying. So we will never come here again .Please be beware
It's a lovely pub staff very friendly food was nice I opted for the lock burger and there is a good selection of sandwiches and other hot foods
Friendly atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating and an ok selection of beer. Opted for the smoked haddock. Was ok, but poor plating and tired looking veggies made me give this a 3 star rating rather than a 4. Would return but try something different.
Good pub. Can get busy as the evening progresses, but worth popping in. Good price drinks. Food is really good, sharing nachos is a real winner!
Good choice of beers, and good food. Place is always clean, and the staff are always pleasant. No Sky television. What more can you want ?
Been to this pub many times....we stay with family who are resident in Clacton on sea and when we visit we always try weather permitting to take the 5ml walk or sometimes our pushbikesalong the promenade and sea front over to the lovely seaside village of Frinton. We're always ready for a drink at the Lock and barrel and sometimes we have the great food they offer... Lovely place with a nice atmosphere....do a bit of shopping in the highstreet then treat yourself at the Barrel....cheers, Chris.
Lovely Sunday roast.Lots of meat, and vegetables. Great Service.Definately go back.
First time in this pub. I just popped in for a quick lunch. The welcome was very friendly from all the team and they took my order and poured my drink super fast. The food arrived quickly and was very nicely presented. It tasted great too. I had the mushroom stroganoff and I'd definitely recommend it. If you are passing this way you you give this place a try.
