The Lightbox

About

The most exciting, and multi-award winning gallery and museum in the South East.

Story

The Lightbox gallery and museum in Woking is one of the most exciting cultural spaces in the South East. Three stunning galleries host a huge range of exhibitions, changing regularly.

We have received many awards in recognition of our work, including winning the Art Fund Prize in 2008.

The building is also home to Woking's Story, an interactive museum of the town's history. If you are visiting with children you will find plenty to keep them occupied with our hands-on activities and interactive displays. You can also enjoy a coffee and slice of delicious cake or lunch in our canalside Café. Afterwards you can browse for a special gift or memento of your visit in our Gift Shop.

Visitors with disabilities will find the building is easy to use. It has been designed to be one of the most accessible cultural venues in the South East.

Good local art gallery that has a good program of exhibitions. It is a bit small but, It has a interesting display of the history of Woking going back to medieval times. Nice cafe on the ground floor. Service is friendly and fast. Food is tasty and we'll cooked.

We didn't go to the art exhibits as entry was £7,50 and my children was happy exploring the free story museum with interactive buttons and displays. We wanted to learn about Woking and the story museum was very interesting. There is a cafe and lift so you can take the stroller.

Always something interesting at this lovely little gallery, worth checking what's on before you go (last time we were a little surprised to find the cafe full with a poetry event going on)

Bright and airy arts center with a engaging approach. Contemporary and classical paintings are well displayed and placed, where possible, into a local context, making content also accessible to young visitors. The Turner exhibition was particularly successful in this respect. Also enjoyed the smaller Marcel Ronay exhibition, again featuring an artist with a local interest. Staff at the café/restaurant were attentive and caring. Good selection of hot and cold dishes available. Looking forward to my next visit.

The Lightbox is a wonderful modern gallery in the centre of Woking which does regularly changing exhibitions of art and sculpture in relatively small and digestible areas. On this occasion we went to see Michel Ronay's lovely landscapes and figures from between the wars. The Seasons Café there also offers for lunch a wide variety of snacks and hot dishes that are very well done.
