We are based on a fell farm in the Lake District National Park, we are fortunate to be surrounded by stunning scenery. The beach is only 10 mins away. We ride using pure bred Shire, Clydesdale and Suffolk Punch draft horses. The Riding we offer supports our Breeding Programme. We breed Rare Breeds of Heavy Horse such as the Suffolk Punch and the Clydesdale.We offer rides to suit both beginner and very experienced riders. One of the best experiences money can buy out here in the lakes. Through and through such a professional experience, ran by people who truly are passionate about keeping heavy horses. My partner and I came yesterday and had no idea what to expect, however we were met with lots of friendly faces. My partner had never ridden a horse but the staff effectively made him feel comfortable and before I knew it we were on our way through the farmland. We did a 2 hour farm trek with Dingle and Sol. Unfortunately I forgot the lovely lady’s name who gave us the tour! Please let her know that she was amazing and the information she told us about the horses was well received. We got some brilliant photos and made a great memory. I think this experience is good for any and all ages + experience levels. There’s something very majestic about these huge horses. I’m hoping to come back to stay at their campsite for my birthday and have a weekend of riding , I’ll just have to drop enough hints too my partner!! I couldn’t recommend this enough!
Fantastic for our first experience riding heavy horses. Me and my friend have been riding for some years and I had been meaning to visit, having passed the signs so many times on the way back from other visits to the area - how I wish I'd been sooner! Originally we had booked the 2 hour farm ride, but later we were given the option to upgrade to the 3 hour fell ride, so we thought why not, might as well make the most of it! Very glad we chose a longer ride, it was absolutely super. I was partnered with Joey, a stunning 19hh Shire who was a gent the whole ride. After making sure everyone had done a trial trot and canter, and had girths etc double checked, we carried on around the trail at a walk over the terrain, but with opportunities later for individual and group canters later on. I've always admired the strength of these horses pulling carts, but actually sat aboard one I still couldn't believe how powerful they were! I absolutely can't wait to come back again and try the beach ride. Thanks again to the staff for a wonderful time!
This place is an absolute treasure! The staff, the location, the whole experience was brilliant. We camped in their campsite which was quiet. It had all the facilities needed, and we could even charge our car from the 16amp plugs they have on the pitches. As for the horses, they are gentle giants and a pleasure to ride. Additionally, the vast expanse of a beach is only 10 minutes down the road. Don't bother bringing breakfast or lunch as their on site cafe will perfectly cater to your needs. I would very highly recommend for a great getaway!
What an incredible place fabulous staff like awesome horses fantastic views and even a really good full English breakfast. My husband Chris an absolute beginner and very nervous and I also a beginner spent 2 hours on Father's Day being treated like the two most important people in the world. The experience was so incredible we returned the following Thursday to do it all again even better than the first time. Chris would like to make special mention of Re who was incredible with him. But must say all the staff go that extra mile. It maybe next year but we will return .
Partner and i went as complete beginners and the whole experience was amazing. We were supplied with fitting helmets and the appropriate shoes. We also had been demonstrated easy tutorials and been introduced to our beautiful horses. Sol and Joe they were amazing majestic creatures. Whole experience was great thanks to our patient instructor who was always calm, gentle and knowledgeable. Thank you!
Another wonderful experience at Cumbrian Heavy Horses; I visit every time I come to The Lakes. I had a wonderful beach ride last week on the beautiful shire mare, Dolly. My ride leader was Peter, a lovely man. It is such a privilege to be able to ride these magnificent horses. I highly recommend a visit. Everyone is so friendly and safety is given high importance. The horses are big and strong but so light in the hand with amazing paces.
Simone and Amy were so accommodating and friendly! A friend who is a total beginner, and I experienced rider wanted an onsite hack. I was able to have a little canter which was greatly received and unexpected! Both instructors taught as we went, and we both learned a great deal. The views, and photos were absolutely spectacular - massive thanks for taking them for us. What a fantastic morning, in a beautiful place that nurtures rare breeds.
We went on a 2 hour hack today at Cumbrian Heavy Horses, we are mixed ability group ageing from 12-60. We had a fantastic day, our guides Amy and Rhiannon did everything to ensure we had a great day and allowed for our different ability levels. They were informative of the horses and the surrounding area. We would definitely recommend and we are looking to going again. Thank you so much.
Totally recommend Cumbrian Heavy Horses for a great ride out, beautiful scenery, professional and caring staff and gorgeous horses. I'm 63 and returned to the saddle after many years. I felt safe and well looked after even though my horse was 19hh. Brilliant, not an experience you should miss.
Had an amazing day with three of my friends on the beach experience, can't fault anything,well apart from the fact it ended, totally awesome experience. Lovely place with little cafe, the horses are totally magnificent, we were awestruck. Lovely helpful staff, amazing experience on a breathtaking beach. We will definitely be returning and would recommend it to anyone. Staff really make sure everyone is ok and look after you. Thanks guys, Maria, Cath, Connor and Wendy x
