Our two girls started at The King Alfred School in September 2023. They have been there almost a year now, so this review is not merely based on first impressions but on what my wife and I have witnessed of the school, staff & pupils over the past year and the impact this school has had on our girls.nThe King Alfred School is excellent. Using a Classical Christian curriculum, the school does not only nurture the child's mind but also the child's heart. And the school does both very well. Our daughters, though still young, are more disciplined and considerate than when they started at the school. And both are enjoying and excelling in their reading, writing, maths, and more.nThe school has small class sizes, meaning your child won't be missed amongst all the other children. Far from it, every child is known, not only by their teachers but by all the staff. The school is like a family.nFinally, as Christians, we love that the school teaches about Jesus regularly and studies the bible as part of their curriculum. The teachers are Christians. There is weekly praise/worship that is meaningful in fact, it may be more frequent than this. Prayer seems to be a natural part of school life from what I read in the weekly newsletters – the newsletters are fantastic because they give parents a real insight into what their child has been doing at school that week information that is usually difficult to draw from our daughters! and also what their education will look like as they grow up at The King Alfred School because we can read about what the older children have been doing too.nWhether you are a Christian or not, I think the approach The King Alfred School takes would benefit every child. It is a low-fee independent school that truly cares for your child's future.
This is such an amazing new school. If you are a Christian and thinking about whether your local school is really the place to send your children, do go and talk to Hayley and Tom. It is such a high quality and exciting new independent school with a heart to support Christian parents especially. I've been to visit a couple of times now, and I am so impressed as a teacher and as a former school principal. They are keeping the fees incredibly low as well. Your children will be known, loved, nurtured and supported in their fledgling Christian faith if you send them to King Alfred's.
The King Alfred School is a lovely school. Our daughter goes there and she is thriving. She has come on so much these past few months in confidence, numeracy, literacy etc and she is so happy at the school. It's a very welcoming place and the staff are all very skilled and deliver a high quality classical Christian curriculum.nWe feel its important that children are aware of their roots including the Christian influence upon their nation's history. This classical education teaches children, crucially, how to think and to think in a way that is logical and that critically evaluates information - so important in the modern world. Standards of learning, behavior etc are high while the team run great extra-curricular provision and they provide excellent pastoral and spiritual support - there is a loving and nurturing environment in place meaning that students grow and learn much.nWe know that our daughter will only continue to excel there and love learning and that she will be well prepared for life.
Amazing school! We are so happy to be able to send our children to a school that is based on Christian values and classical education. The teachers and all the staff are great and the kids love the school.nI highly recommend the school.
My grandchildren attend this school. Their progress has been remarkable since starting. My initial impression is that this is a school that cares about the individuals, it’s as much about growing people as it is about academic achievement. Don’t let the Christian tag put you off. Congratulations to the team who teach!
