We visited during a small break and found the experience to be fun, albeit a little shorter than expected, lasting around 60 minutes.nnTickets, both on the day and brought in advance, are provided in the shop, which can be problematic when busy.nnOnce through, you wait in a lounge for the next performance. Once ready you enter a small performance room where a cast member playing a character from one of Jane Austen's books takes you through Jane's life story and family history.nnAfter you are led downstairs to the exhibit area. The area contains more on Jane's family, costumes and replicas.nnThe experience is well done and definitely one to check out if you are a fan, however unlike the Roman Baths, the experience is short and only part of the morning or afternoon.
If you're looking for a serious, highly detailed museum experience, this might not be it, but it's not a bad thing.nnThe Jane Austen Centre is an entertaining and whimsical tribute to Jane Austen's life and work, not to be taken too seriously. The entire experience is made special by the staff, who are incredibly invested in their roles. Each of them adopts a name from Austen's novels. Their presentation on Austen is entertaining and full of energy. They make it clear that the goal is fun, not a dry lecture, and they are happy to answer any questions you have about Austen's life, showing a genuine passion for the subject.nnThe interactive elements, like getting to dress up in period costumes and try your hand at writing with a quill, add to the charm. It's a lighthearted and engaging way to step back in time. The small gift shop is also worth a look for unique souvenirs.
Jane Austen was a prolific writer whose works on social satire have lived on for years. Her relevance, from movie adaptations to her relateable quotes, goes on to show her excellence. Wonderful, felt like we were transported back in Jane Austen's time and lived the experience.
I had a lovely time at the Centre. Staff is friendly and really get in to the whole spirit of the characters. The visit is very organised and has a nice pace to it, you can go as fast or as slow as you want, to really take eeverything in. I've also booked for the Regency Tearoom and had a lovely traditional tea Mr Darcy's. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was calm and pleasant.
We started our trip there - what a way to start. My kids surprised me with a trip for my birthday. The host and staff were amazing - they made the experience real. They dressed the part and their subtle ways of talking was refreshing without being cheesy.nThank you for a lovely day.
