This place used to be a complete dive, but the new management has done a sterling job, completely renovating the interior and making it feel a much nicer place to visit. They seem to be working on the entertainment side of things too - the live music some nights is a very welcome addition. Initially I was a bit put out that they didn't sell Fosters, but they've rectified this now, thankfully, although the Ironmaster, is, it has to be said, a bit pricier per round than the Wetherspoons which is more-or-less next door (although that pub doesn't have music, so there is that).

[added apr'18] i have now tried the food, from both lunchtime and dinner menus, and it was very good. [old review]much better now, pleasant staff, clean and pretty smart inside, good selection of beers some well known and some trendy artisan stuff. I haven't tried the food yet, by the look of it theyre concentrating on doing a smaller menu well rather than a big selection of mostly rubbish which is a good thing. what ive seen looked pretty good.

Popped in for lunch. This from the 'small menu'. Very tasty and filling. Staff pleasant and helpful, as wad one of the customers. 😊
