Story

The International Anthony Burgess Foundation encourages and supports interest in all aspects of the life and work of Anthony Burgess. Based in Manchester, England, we have an extensive library, archive and study centre containing Burgess’s books, music and papers.

Our live venue presents new work by writers, artists and musicians, and our cafe bar serves up a range of home made food and drinks daily, including a range of soups, sandwiches, cakes, teas, coffees, wines and fine ales.

Visit our bookshop and discover the works of Anthony Burgess, his contemporaries and even explore a range of rare books owned by Burgess himself.

Love this cafe. Its so friendly and welcoming. The food is great and she makes a good cup of tea! I think all their takeaway packages are environmentally friendly.

Interesting place for any Burgess and literature fans. A nice cafe even if you're neither of the above.

Nice cafe. Cool venue for meetings and seminars. Plenty of parking just opposite.

Okay priced cafe, had the option for loose leaf tea which is always a plus! Got some chocobannana cake too and it came to just under a fiver which isn't too bad. Came on a Wednesday morning and it was lovely and quiet so had chance to sit and read my book

It's full of singers...so that must be wonderful then...surely.....!!

Clean and tidy establishment. Helpful and knowledgeable staff

A place of culture. I have been there for two conferences, a poetry reading event and coffee with friends - each time the atmosphere was really welcoming. Very friendly staff.

People we know had hired the Engine Room to stage a concert and it was excellent. Small but very reasonably priced cafe/bar,  ideal intimate performance space. One thing to note: toilets were unisex downstairs so not sure if disabled friendly but other than that superb venue
