An extraordinary place, full of the most striking and beautiful art
We visited as part of our visit to the Orkney Islands and pleased that we came across their workshop and gallery. There seems to be some amazing walks nearby, but with our two young kids we didn't have an opportunity to check it out on this occasion.
Stunning work, beautiful location - fantastic to be able to meet the artists and see the looms as well as work in progress. Lovely to meet the owner and artist who took their time to speak about their work. Thoroughly recommend a visit. Prints and original work are available as well as cards - deeply inspiring visit, very jealous of the wonderful studio and stunning location one day , will definitely revisit.
The Hoxa gallery is well worth a visit for anyone interested in pictorial art, craft and, particularly tapestry. The tapestries on show are stunningly beautiful. What amazing design and work! I also enjoyed the paintings very much. They reflect the local environment and are interesting and skillful. There are framed and unframed prints of the tapestries and artworks available to buy. We were made very welcome. Definitely recommended.
Nice selection of artwork. Thought there might be a tour around the facility. Staff wasn't really engaging
Loved this gallery, beautiful artistry, stunning pieces and the colours used are awesome. Looking forward to hanging up my prints for myself and others to admire on my walls.
Interesting to see if you are out that way. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the designs were not to my taste, frankly a bit dull. No transparency about tapestry prices, small rugs generally in the £1,000-£2,000 range, which seems a bit pricey since they have semi-automated the manufacturing process. You can also buy prints of tapestries for a couple of hundred pounds. No photos allowed in the gallery.
Beautiful works, especially if you are looking for an impressive piece to display in your home but beware, expensive. Framed Prints also available at much more modest price.
