We stopped here by chance and were presently surprised at how nice the food and welcome was. My wife had the mixed grill and I had the steak and ale pie which were both well cooked and tasty. We would recommend eating here.
Once again another 5 star meal. The pork roast dinner OMG!!! If I was on death row then that would be my last meal. It was phenomenal Hollybush you are honestly the best. Your staff are always so welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. And the food is absolutely top tier
2nd visit here today since December 2022. Both visits attended to swiftly with friendly waiting staff, along with warm and nice portions of food. My only nit pick would be the pigs in blankets ordered as extras. It's simply 2 sausages covered in the smallest piece of bacon, so more like just sausages. Also possibly provide gravy for the customer to pour themselves, as there was no gravy poured on our yorkies which were incredibly dry.
Good pub decor. Food OK but nothing special. My soup was luke warm. Table service in the main part of the pub but drinks were slow coming. Had to ask a couple of times and it wasn't overly busy.
We were back here again last night for our 31st wedding anniversary and had another amazing evening. We absolutely love this little gem and it's our go to place for good meal in lovely surroundings. The atmosphere is always great and the staff are lovely and friendly. If you're looking for somewhere that serves wonderful food that's so much more than your regular pub grub then this is the place. Fantastic quality and choice and when it's 3 courses for £17.99 Monday to Thursday you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere better. The location also means that it's a lovely drive out to it which is an added bonus. If you've not tried the place yet then give it a try. You definitely won't be disappointed.
Stood at the bar for 5 minutes, fully aware of having just missed the lunch rush - the barmaid with the blue/green hair blatantly ignored us, we wondered if we should’ve been at the other side of the bar but got no service or acknowledgement on that side either. Decided to leave as no tables cleared anyway, and really disappointed to see the fire wasn’t on! - as we were leaving a gentleman who had literally just arrived got service straight away! Always found it to be variable service here, probably won’t make the effort to come back.
Our waitress was fine, but looked run off her feet and needed more staff. Quality of food was very average. It looked chucked on the plates and my sister in law had fish that was inedible! The last time we had dinner here I had burger that wasn’t great so probably going to swerve this restaurant now! Don’t like sending negative reviews but thought people needed to know‍
A £15 roast shouldn't have frozen roast potatoes. Service is lacking. Over 2 hours for 2 courses. Had to ask for drinks, and then for dessert. She then disappeared to get the tablet, and we had to remind her that we didn't know the options as she never provided a menu. Despite being the last ones in the restaurant our sundaes came out more liquid than solid. So presumably they sat in the warm kitchen for too long. Too tired to raise it and confidence was low. Waitress was completely disinterested in our table and more occupied with placing cutlery for empty tables. Spend time serving the current customers not preparing for tomorrows. Used to be so much better than this.
We've had several meals at the holly bush and have never been disappointed. Today we could't get a table as we hadn't booked and the restaurant was very busy. However it took 15 or more minutes to be told that unbooked tables were not available. A quick Check on passing and we were passed a number of times or a sign in the waiting area would have been satisfactory and sent us on our way.
Great find close to Heart of Country in a small village called Little Hay. Greene King owned Chef and Brewer. The food was excellent, the guest beer was excellent, and the attention of staff was excellent. But by far the ambiance and dog friendly bar side was perfect for a warm autumn afternoon We loved it all and will be back soon. Thank you.
