We visited here on a sunny April day and had a great time. It's quite a walk up the hill (obviously) from the town but the effort was rewarded. Striking from the outside and remarkable inside, I'd recommend it for anyone who has an interest or liking for Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The rooms designed by Macintosh are at times quite breathtaking in their design, colours and use of light, and the explanation cards in each room help draw the eye to detail which too easily could be missed. The cafe and especially the cafe staff were also excellent. My one comment would be that this is not a fantastic day trip for young children, unless they have developed an early interest in Art Deco, Arts and Crafts or are regular subscribers to House and Home magazine!

The best Mackintosh house! The interiors are amazing and the staff at the house are very nice and welcoming. They are happy to explain you more about the house and its history. It is a must!

Great example of the work of Charles Rennie Macintosh and the Glasgow School.  Fascinating for adults and they offer a scavenger hunt that highlights architectural and design details to keep kids interested as well.

If you love Glasgow style, you'll love Hillhouse! Beautiful examples of CRM and his wife's work in this house he designed for Blackie (the publisher). Once you have walked round and seen the beautiful interior decoration and furniture, there's a tea shop and gift shop for retail satisfaction. National Trust staff can explain the content of each room, or there are information cards to peruse at your leisure. Enjoy!!
