Story

Welcome to the Grove Bookshop, one of the north of England's best-known independent bookshops. Situated in Ilkley, the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, the Grove Bookshop is located along the tree-lined Grove, which offers a pleasant and relaxing shopping experience.

The ground floor of the shop is a general bookshop which caters for all tastes. We also carry a wide range of Yorkshire books, from life in Bradford's textile mills to the stunning photographic landscapes of the Dales. Our extensive travel section offers a variety of local walking guides and maps, and we also stock travel guides for destinations across the globe

The Grove Bookshop also carries a large stock of books signed by the author, particularly from October onwards, reflecting our role as the official bookseller for the Ilkley Literature Festival. Alan Bennett, a long-standing customer, frequently pops in to sign copies of his popular books, which always make great presents for friends and family.

Our fast and efficient ordering system means the vast majority of customer orders arrive the following day. To order any British book in print, just email details of the title(s) you are interested in or give us a call (contact details below).

Another feature of the Grove Bookshop is the lower-floor where you will find Grove Music, selling an extensive range of CDs (mainly classical, jazz and classic rock), DVDs (with an emphasis on classic and modern classic films from Britain and abroad) and sheet music.

The Grove Bookshop is just 200 yards from Ilkley's bus and train station, and there is a large car park to the rear. We are open 9-5.30 Monday to Saturday (Books and Music), and 11.30-4.30 on Sundays (Book Dept only). To contact the bookshop ring 01943 609335 or send an email to [email protected]. To contact the music department ring 01943 817301, or email [email protected]

Charming little bookshop right in the heart of Ilkley. For a small business this place has tons of books and cute little things. They have a wonderfully diverse curated books, even signed ones. You can get lost looking through the books and little notebooks and giveaways. Parking is located mostly in the back but some are in the front. Definitely check them out!
A brilliant bookshop. We needed a niche book quickly, and they ordered it overnight for us. When we picked it up, they gift wrapped it beautifully. Incredible service and lovely building. Thanks guys!
I loved The Grove bookshop! The staff were super knowledgeable and made some excellent recommendations for books based on a very brief description of what I have liked and disliked previously. The selection is also great - plenty of variety and I believe something for everyone, including classics and new and distinctive titles despite the shop itself being quite small. I’ll be back here again I’m sure!
I went into the Grove bookshop on a whim and was simply browsing when I read their recommendation for Alice Munro. What can I say?! It was spot on and I have been captivated by the books that I bought. If you know what you like, but don’t necessarily specifically know what you want I can’t recommend the Grove bookshop highly enough. Go there and talk to the really knowledgeable book lovers behind the desk to find books that will engage, immerse and speak to you. Have fun!
A great independent bookshop in Ilkley. They have signed copies of books by speakers at the Ilkley book festival. They have two floors, with travel books in the basement as well as a section devoted to children's books in the rear.
Such a lovely place with an incredibly welcoming staff and a marvelous selection of books. A very cozy bookstore which I often come back to :
Lovely bookshop great atmosphere. Staff very happy to help too!
Charming independent on The Grove and just as you would like a book shop to be...great fiction/non-fiction all ages variety for relaxed browsing old and new literature. Great selection of OS maps!
This would have been a 5 star review, as this is a lovely bookshop with a great selection of books, but my entire experience was ruined when I bought a book for my holiday recently. Just as I tapped my card to pay for it, the woman on the till heavily hinted at the storyline of the book. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt but having finished the book this week, I can confirm that she totally ruined the plot. I read the whole book knowing where the story was going which really ruins a thriller and if she hadn’t done this, it would have been a great holiday read.
Lovely local bookshop with lots of interesting and varied stock. The staff are always helpful. Well worth a visit.
