Went to this pub a few weekends ago and everything was lovely, my partner had fish and chips and loved it. We have just ordered a takeout from here with friends, spent £70 on food to recieve these as 2 of our meals... Knowing that he had fish and chips before and it was tasty, we recommended it to our friend only to receive two versions that looked like this.. Fish had disappeared in most of it it was that overcooked, not to mention how dry and chewy it was. Such a shame, but we won't be eating from here again.
On our way home looking for somewhere to eat we noticed the car park busy so presumably a great place to eat. I think my meal of the Beef & Chritzo was the best of the two meals. My wife had the Sunday Roast. I must admit having tasted hers it was a bit lack lustre. Meat turkey flattened the Yorkshire Pudding. The potatoes were earthy as if they had been on the hot plate all day The mash felt like a catering packet product! Away from the food the staff were very friendly & the views are amazing.
Great pub. Lovely views, outdoor seating surrounded by low glass "wind proof walls" so you can enjoy the views of the moors. Great choice of beers and amazing food.
Excellent Sunday lunch! Two traditional roasts beef brisket that melted in the mouth and one shared pudding jam roly-poly with ample custard plus 2 pints of bitter for £40. Worth every penny.
Sorry to say but the food was a real let down. The tipsy chicken was blathered in a stodgy, thick sauce, tasted of flour. The veg portion was minute and barely any potatoes hiding under the slop, the chicken was dry on the edges I was still starving after eating it. My friend ended up giving me some of her gammon, which she didn't really enjoy either. I thought it was OK and at least she got a full meal. She said the chips were tasteless too and a little undercooked. Hoped pudding was going to change my mind but the volcano starting platter was a let down too. The cake was dry and the fudge tasted like it was from a tub. The meringue was nice texture but unpleasant flavour. Frozen berries and sugar stars with no toffee sauce or malteasers like the pictures showed just made it worse. Nice place and lovely staff but disappointing food, especially at the prices being charged.
Everything in this restaurant deserves a 10. Beautiful surroundings, the inside is roomy, cosy, well decorated and taken care off. Service was very good, staff was attentive and profesional but also giving a warm treatment. Food was worth the price 100%. Highly recommended.Food: 5/5
Visited this place by chance when i passed by to habe my lunch, instead of driving further i decided to give it a try, I ordered the Sunday Roast with Turkey and Roast Pork, the portion are considered big for me and are really delicious, their Americano are also good. Went back later that evening for Chicken burger but was told that they do not have make it on Sunday, so i ordered the Chicken Tipsy and it was no disappointment at all.

A great tap room and restaurant out in country with great views over penistone hill. Menu selection is good with the grouses own twist on popular favourites the specials blackboard over the open log fire has always a great choice as well. We have going to the grouse inn for the last 6 years and the inn now under new management. Lunch menu has changed with a set menu smaller portions but still good food the photo shows lunchtime fish n chips half fish, nine chips mushy peas and tartare sauce the grouse has the locally brewed Timothy Taylor's beer on tap and great selection of wine from a local vintner. The staff are always very attentive, well trained and knowledgeable. Still recommended
Our go to for Sunday lunch. Always perfect and the atmosphere is fabulous. Lovely friendly staff and quick service with a smileFood: 5/5
