Excellent pub, the best in hitchin. Wide range of beers and spirits and every night out at The George is always memorable, would recommend this pub to anyone looking for great service from bar staff and a lovely atmosphere.

Went in the pub recently for the first time, girl behind the bar was nice as was the young lad that collected the glasses but that’s where the good stops. The pub was empty, I think I counted 4 customers in total, having visited, I can now understand why the place is so empty. The place is a dump. The gents toilets are filthy, god only knows when they last got cleaned, you could feel your feet stick to the floor, place stank to high heaven. Building is old and tired, its not character, it’s just been run into the ground with little to no love or money put into it. Prices are ridiculous also. £3.80 for a 330ml bottle of larger!! I’d give it a miss myself, far better pubs in Hitchin. %%% Review reply %%% Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my review about your establishment. In reply to your response; My visit was not a Friday or a Saturday, however a young guy who was very friendly and polite and a real credit to your establishment collected gasses. My maths is not that great, happy to admit that, however I don’t have too much trouble when counting to four, of course I didn’t count myself or my guest I was with at the time, nor did I count staff. I can only take your figure of 400 guests as much as you took my figure of 4. I’m sure you have given blood sweat and tears, the fact you have bothered to take the time to reply, proves how passionate you are about your establishment, have changed my review to reflect that. Maybe the toilets are checked and cleaned every 15 / 20 mins at peak time, I guess when I visited and with it being as quiet as it was, that rule didn’t count, was certainly not enforced whilst I was their. Apologies about my initial mistake in putting 250ml, that should of read 330ml, I have now corrected that. Your more than entitled to have your suspicion about my review just as much as I am entitled to review a service I paid for / experienced. I’m not trying to damage any locally owned food and drink business, again, if I pay for a service, I’m entitled to my views of that service. Cheap dig with the Wetherspoons comment, never been in their myself so I can’t comment, however with just under 1000 establishments they can’t be that bad and must be doing something right!

A fun little venue; perhaps too little. The bar is cramped when there is a DJ playing in the front. If its too full, theres a nice shed out the back with seats and heaters. Upstairs, theres a cocktail bar but i didn't visit it and apparently in the summer they run barbeques. i will be back.

Very deceptive as it goes deep, but enjoyed my visit.
