This has to be one of the best pubs with rooms we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in quite a few! Lovely bedroom - spacious, clean, lovely decor and comfy bed. An en-suite with walk in shower and all the bath goodies you need. The pub for dinner was great - super friendly service and a lovely meal of home cooked and high standard of food. The staff were so friendly and helpful. If you are in this part of the world this is where you have to stay. As a Scot I noted a previous review. Sadly in Scotland we do not have the lovely pub culture that the English have, so we just have to come south to enjoy it! Great place to stay and eat!
I travel all across the UK for work and The George has gone straight into top place! Rooms are stunning in every way. Food cooked at night was amazing best scotch egg Amy cooked THE BEST scrambled eggs and salmon . Then there's fantastic Lola. Full of energy and warmth, makes you feel so welcome and always checking in making sure all is well. Can't wait to be working down that neck of the woods again. Don't hesitate, book now!!
Stayed there for a wedding, that was close by, the hotel is very historic and beautiful with great quiet views of the country side and the best of Bath. I won’t lie, you have to have a purpose or a local friend to truly enjoy it since it is very quiet. If u are looking for that then u are at the right place. The staff was outstanding the room I stayed was great and if I had a significant other it could be described as romantic. But u have to bring that with you. The pub was historic, one night the bar tender who was as beautiful as she was charming allowed me to stand behind the bar and serve my friend. That is true hospitality and I thank her for that. the food was great and all around I had an outstanding time at the wedding and the hotel. I highly recommend the hotel but like I said it is a special place that u have to have advance knowledge off for it is a bit off the beaten path.
The George is one of my favourite places in the country to visit - the staff are always amazing, the food is delicious and I absolutely love the historic decor! My only suggestion for improvement would be it would be lovely if they played more Medieval or classical music rather than pop music in the bar/restaurant to match the decor a bit better and make the visit even more immersive/beautiful, but overall I love visiting. I've been many times and hope to come back many more times too! Would heartily recommend.
We had a wonderful stay. Our room was great, a lovely four poster bed, which was very comfortable. All the staff were so nice and attentive, they were lovely. Our breakfasts and dinners were fantastic, with some great unusual dishes. A well worth visit and we would love to come again.Rooms: 5/5
Completely brilliant. The building is stunning no matter which of the myriad sections you’re in: beamed, airy restaurant we had Sunday lunch here; the wood-panelled lounge bars with awesome fireplaces we had dinner in summer - need to go back in winter when it’s roaring for sure; the garden overlooking the lovely village green and out to the undulating countryside… Linda and her team were so welcoming, and the George managed to put on different hats for each of the times we visited during our break: a spontaneous lunch, a booked birthday dinner for me and my partner to get away together, then Sunday lunch with the whole family and little person. Interesting menu options, though pub classics are not forgotten, and veggie or vegan folks are well catered for too. All in all would strongly recommend a visit, and thank you so much for looking after us and making each visit special!
Perfect! The most fascinating building in a beautiful setting. Staff were pleasant, friendly & helpful from check-in to check-out. The ale was fabulous in the bar, the food was top class in the restaurant & breakfast was wonderful too. Our room was luxurious, clean & spacious. Thank you to all the team! We'll be back!Rooms: 5/5
Amazing pub in a beautiful village. Staff were friendly but quite slow to take orders / bring out food and drinks. Food was decent, not fantastic but decent. Personally I'd like to have seen a menu that better matches the settingLocation: 5/5
Great value for a slice of history. A lovely welcome from Lola, although we were well looked after by all of the staff. A bit disappointed with the breakfast, not a fan of a deep fried sausage and watery scrambled eggs. Bacon crisped to within an inch of its life. Evening meal far better.Rooms: 4/5
fantastic stay. The building is steeped in history and is magical to walk around. The room we had was the Coach and was up some little stairs on the outside. Original beams and furnishings. The bar and restaurant were perfect and the food delicious. Will definitely revisit this charming magical place.
