Excellent Hotel with great wifi reception and friendly & accomodating staff. Would definitely recommend staying here in the future.
Not a pup I like, to much trouble, son was set on in there as he tried to leave,a few years ago, and even though an assault conviction was the result, the management were not helpful in coming up with video evidence it was only under pressure from the police they found the tape, so no not a pup I like.laddie and loud.
We stayed here as it was our only option on a short notice family event in a nearby town, so we are grateful they could accommodate us all... But, it was probably one of the worst night sleeps I've ever had.nnThe rooms are a decent size and the linen was fresh, but those beds have seen better days, and were quite wonky and lumpy and not comfortable. The bathroom though was awful with barely any water pressure in the taps took a good 2 minutes to fill up a glass of water. The toilet was very noisy when flushed and somehow made a noise when another room flushed! The shower in the morning was terrible Room 10 with barely a trickle, so we gave up even trying.nnThe noise from the pub below was also quite bad. Now I get this is above a pub, so noise would always be an issue, but the shouting and screaming went on well past 2am, so trying to sleep was impossible.nnThe staff we did interact with were lovely, and it wasn't their fault any of the issues above, so can only praise them your being happy and helpful.
It would be easy to give The George a one star review based on our stay, but everything has to be put in to perspective given the price point. We each paid less than a round of drinks for a nights stay, very affordable!nnUpon arriving, we parked in the rear car park via a very narrow entrance and the check-in process was quick and we were immediately shown to our room. Three of us stayed in a room which had a separate bathroom & toilet, of which we had exclusive use of.nnThe room was very dated, basic and dingy with a sink and tea/coffee making facilities. If you're looking for a modern, well furnished or dust-free room with uncreased bedsheets you'll be disappointed. Somewhere simple to bed-down for the night? Ideal. The building is also really interesting being built circa 1640, lots of original fixtures & fittings if you like that kind of thing!.nnOn this particular night there was a live band playing down in the bar until closing time. It was impossible to try and sleep until about midnight. Sadly there was some unsavoury 'afters' in the street below with drunken patrons arguing, fighting and throwing glass until around 1am. Goes with the territory of staying above a pub? Probably.
A little tired. The beds need replacing. Very hot and noisy on the Friday, as they had a wake on and the manager couldn't get them to go inside. He did apologise in the morning. Saturday was a little better.
