We popped in on the off chance on our way back from Christmas shopping in Banbury. The restaurant was fully booked, but we ended up on a nice table near the fireplace. The service was excellent.nA young, dark-haired girl, I didn't quite catch her name. But she knew the menu well and was always smiling and happy.nnWe ordered the nut roast and a mixed roast. It was absolutely gorgeous.nFor pudding, we decided on the sticky toffee pudding and the white chocolate brownie. We definitely weren't expecting the portions sizes... They were huge!!nI'm not a fan of custard or ice cream, so the young girl went to see if they had any sorbet on offer. They had orange and lemon sorbet on offer, and i opted for the lemon. It was lovely.nThe young, dark-haired gentleman behind the bar was very polite, too.nWe will definitely be coming back in the future as it's not far from where we live in shipstonnnThank you all for a lovely time
We stayed here in our caravan on there campsite , we had a warm welcome from all the staff , nothing was to much trouble. I have a lovely chat with the owner Nigel and its great to hear the plans they have and also he told me of the history of the place too. Would highly recommend The gate hangs high for ether camping or just a visit to a lovely country pub !!
The room was very nice, however, they were having a community fire work event for charity which looked amazing. This did turn into a late disco and as we were staying a few meters away from the bar, having loud music until 2am was not great. If this was happening would it not have been prudent to inform people who are booking a stay there?
We stayed one night on the campsite in our van, the facilities were great and our dog was safe sniffing around. We also had food on their first burger night. It was amazing - the food was delicious, the wine was great and the girls serving were amazing and so attentive. Highly recommend burger night at GHH!
Flies, flies, flies!!!!nApart from the flies the campsite is very nice. The pub closes early on a Sunday so we didn’t get a chance to sample the food and drink.nThe staff are lovely and the grounds are well kept.nI have had give this an average review due to the amount of flies, seriously a load of them even stayed with us on our journey back to Yorkshire. The good news is that the flies now have a new home in the Yorkshire countryside nThe camp site looks family friendly!
