To be honest, unfortunately, it didn't live up to the expectations i had been given from friends who had said it's a great venue. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We went for afternoon tea. The food was well presented in its parrot cage! The sandwiches were a little disappointing. The pastries, however, we're pretty good. Unlimited tea or coffee. The price was reasonable at £25per head. Although it's marketed at being high end, it's still a cafe at a garden centre, albeit a posh one!!
Had afternoon tea here for 3 people on a Saturday afternoon. The food was very nice, however we felt there could’ve been more sandwiches as it was mostly sweet cakes. 1 in the party also stated they were lactose intolerant, and so they were served a Vegan option. I find this a bit disappointing as these dietary requirements are quite different, and as a result everything was vegetarian as well. As for the service, this was quite awful. We were still waiting to pay 20 mins after being given the bill, despite the restaurant being quiet. Also no plates or cups were cleared out of the way at any point, and we had to request additional cutlery and crockery for sweet/savoury, and for a nice restaurant this service feels very poor. We were also completely unaware that included you get unlimited hot and cold drinks - better customer communication is definitely needed. Overall, the service could be vastly improved for £30 per head. Nice cakes though.
Lovely restaurant, great decor and atmosphere. The service is always excellent. Opted for the lamb ragu which was rather bland, there are probably better options on the menu, buttermilk chicken burger looked good. Food is slightly on the pricey side.Food: 3/5
My first visit here with friends who have been before an evening before Christmas week. Lovely spacious surroundings in a complex of garden centre, farm shop, art and crafts and restaurant with outside seating available in good weather Excellent food at reasonable prices. Friendly attentive service from all staff. My only slight criticism would be that the good and comprehensive wine list is a bit more costly than some. Looking forward to another visit.
I had a surprise birthday lunch for my friend. The food was good and the service was so wonderful. We had a kid playing violin when bringing the dessert to the table. The staff was so nice and “co-operative” in order for us to bring the joy to my friend. My friend had a great time. Thank you!Food: 4/5
I had been wanting to visit here for a long time and finally was able to go. I visited with my husband 18 month son and mother in law. Our table was booked a week or 2 in advance, we advised we would need a high chair. We were promptly seated and we asked if we could have a high chair, the server went away presumably to get one. They did not return to the table. When our drink and food order was taken we again asked for a high chair. We were told yes ill get one. This person again did not return until serving our food. I believe my husband approached someone again and asked for a chair and was told there was a large party in that were using the chairs so they were struggling to find one. My son was running about the restaurant as an 18 month old would but fortunately we were seated right by the outside and he was able to have a bit of space to play. Our food arrived and there was still no high chair. I was unable to enjoy my food or eat it when it was hot as I had to have my son on my lap so he could eat his stag bol. This ruined the meal for me. My son didn't want to stay sat in my lap so I was then taking it in turns with my husband to go outside with our son. From what I had of my meal it was delicious it's just a shame we couldn't all eat together and were up and down throughout the visit. Also the food was cold by time of eating. We did on one occasion have a staff member approach the table and apologise about the lack of chair. My husband and Mil were near finishing their food when a high chair appeared. Whilst I was outside with our son a server asked how our food was. My husband told the server we were unable to enjoy it due to our son not being able to be seated properly. We just received a verbal apology. We had coffee after and were not given any sugar. My husband approached the coffee bar and asked for sugar and the man making our drinks seemed really annoyed. He briefly looked up and grimaced and then pointed to another server. I understand he was busy but customer service? I know it might seem easy to say 'control your son to sit at a table' but it's a lot easier said than done for some toddlers. I was left disappointed by the experience and seemed like an inconvenience. But I highly rate the food.
Outstanding experience from start to finish, superb produce, expertly cooked and beautifully presented. Fantastic wines, cocktails, mocktails and soft drinks served by supremely knowledgeable and skilled team members. You never feel like a burden, you are made to feel welcomed and genuinely appreciated by the hosts This is not a run of the mill destination, The Fig and Olive is an absolute treasure. Go and pay them a visit, you will not be disappointed in any way. Fabulous dishes and with vegetarian choices that would feel rightfully at home on a starred restaurant menu. Don't believe me? Then try that nut roast, it's sublime! If you are feeling hungry and brave then the cheese board is for you, the brownie is seriously not for the feint hearted either but every pudding is of equal quality here. Visited many times and each and every single occasion the whole team knock it out the park.
This is one of my favourite places to eat and have a wander. The Fig & Olive is such a nice place to visit, the restaurant is always just so calm at any time of the year. The menu is great and the staff always friendly and efficient. The selection of shops within the garden centre are, in my opinion, so lovely and full of quality items. The Forage is a great place to pick up those things that you can’t find any where else, it’s like a contemporary farm shop. The garden centre also always has a great selection. The art shop is lovely although I’ve never been able to purchase anything but the displays are really special and the other shop again has off the wall gifts and you can always find something you didn’t know you needed
Small garden centre, plants reasonably priced and a good selection of garden pots. The shop stocks good quality home ware, including wooden toys and a selection of soft toys and children's books. The cafe has a good selection of cakes and sandwiches and has a small area to sit in. The delicatessen and butchers have a good variety of products. There is also a fresh orange machine which was delicious. The restaurant looked inviting, definitely something I'd like to go back and try.
We adore the garden centre and the little array of shops. It was the first time we had eaten at the Fig & Olive and we actually did enjoy the food, however found it a little expensive for the quality of service we received. We had to prompt the servers for our drink order and ask how long our food would be after seeing many other tables get served before us. The restaurant wasn’t at full capacity, however we had to wait 45 minutes for our meal and both my husband and I were not served at the same time. We waited after we finished eating and nobody cleared our empty dishes until we had left. Our server however was lovely and the main host was apologetic and very friendly. I think we may just have experienced a glitch on the day we visited.
