Stayed over on a Monday night in February in rm 217. The staff were lovely and the evening meal and breakfast were top draw. Our room was comfortable, clean and quirky and at the outer limits. You could wander around the historic James I & King William room at all hours. A couple were audio recording for ghosts and talking to the night porter about a ghost recently duffing up a guest in room 232, and other ghostly tales. A real treat and one of the best 3 * hotels I've ever stayed in in a great location. A real treat.
Second time I’ve been here. First was drinks with my partner and this time we stayed for 3 nights just before Christmas. Absolutely awesome hotel. The building itself is incredible as is much of the architecture in Ludlow. The rooms were fab and the bar and dining area. Amazing food. Great selection of wines. The staff here are absolutely AMAZING. Each and every one of them were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. We had an amazing time. Also we brought our dog and they made her feel very welcome too!nWe can’t wait to come back!!
The hotel is in a great location in the centre of Ludlow. There is on site parking and the castle is a few minutes walk away.nCheck in was simple and we navigated through the meandering corridors to reach our rooms. It’s a 400 year old building so there are stairs, steps and turns as well as some fabulous wood panelling and glass.nMy room, 104, was a good size with an excellent modern bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable, there was a good sized desk plus additional seating and the sockets all had USB ports too.nThe room was quiet, overlooking the car park and despite the hotel being busy there was no noise intrusion from other guests. Breakfast was excellent, buffet with various cooked to order options. Not excessive but good sized portions and decent service.nOverall a lovely stay in a fabulous location.
We are local to Ludlow and all our experiences are unfortunately how good it could be. Recently visited for drinks, staff were great but £17 for a medium glass of wine, half a lager and a small lemonade? We’d love to visit more often but fear the feathers are pricing themselves out of the town…
Sadly, having checked in today for a 2 night stay I will be checking out a day earlier than planned. The heat in all areas of the hotel is uncomfortably warm, yes, the radiator in my room can be turned down and the window opened but the public rooms - including the restaurant - are oppressively warm.nnWhen I arrived at 3pm I wanted 2 things - a sandwich and a bath. The room I booked sadly only had a shower my fault for not reading more carefully and the 'room service' listed on the website is not, as one would assume, actual room service. It is, in fact, the hotel undertaking the usual cleaning of the room. A tad disingenuously worded perhaps.nnWhen I arrived at the restaurant for my dinner by now hungry enough to eat a table, I found myself presented with a menu that comprised of 3 roast dinners which I don't eat, a fish dish which I don't eat or a mushroom pasta dish which I don't eat. The website states that it has a Sunday Lunch menu, it hadn't occurred to me that the same menu would be used for Sunday evening meals. I genuinely was close to tears and asked the waitress to confirm that this was, indeed, the sum total of the options. I would have given my right arm for a salad. The same waitress then automatically brought me a jug of tapwater whilst offering all other tables still, sparkling or tap water was I in some way silently judged and found to be only worthy of tap water?. I ordered a bottle of pinot noir, she had a bottle of chardonnay delivered to my table. The food, I am sure, was beautifully cooked, if its food you like.nnGiven how the first 6hrs in this hotel has gone, I will check out as soon as I can tomorrow. Which breaks my heart. I lived at this hotel for 6 weeks as a young teen and this return visit has absolutely not lived up to either my memories or the hotel's reputation.
