The Fat Walrus
"The Fat Walrus opened its doors on January 20th, 2016 and quickly became a firm favourite with the locals of New Cross, Deptford, Brockley and Telegraph Hill. Now, with Whole Beast now running the kitchen the pub has taken it's food offer to another level and is also serving what many have said to be the best Sunday roasts in town. The mood lighting, exposed brickwork and comfy booths, along with the friendly atmosphere and loveable resident dog, Trouble, make the pub feel like it's been your local for years"

Had the most delicious Sunday roast yesterday. Everything was really well cooked and very tasty but I must say the beef was cooked to perfection. Staff really friendly and welcoming. I look forward to my next trip to the Fat Walrus. Thank you so much!
A good range of local beers, nice food menu, beer garden and variety of spaces to hang out. What’s not to like? Located on the slightly odd one-way triangle as Lewisham Way comes into New Cross by Goldsmiths Uni, this gastro-pub is in the New Cross / Walpole style. Tables are made with hefty industrial pipe and large varnished plywood tops. Some have comfy benches, while outside is more picnic table in the beer garden. You can sit out front … but it’s on the main road. The staff are friendly and efficient. You can order via the app, at the bar or just by asking a server - having the choice is nice. The beer menu is the kind that was edgy a few years ago but now seems common place. The food menu similarly isn’t that adventurous but has what you want.
So lucky to have this place locally to me. Food has always been consistent and service is always great. Staff members are very professional, friendly and efficient. Love the beer garden as well, so good for summer time. Do try out this place, they also have a great drinks menu.
Three years ago, I posted the short review for The Fat Walrus, just saying "Really excellent Sunday roasts". They are excellent, and I have to say that we've never had anything but great food at this pub. BUT, after last weekend, we'll think before going back again. There were three of us, and we had great food as usual, but we felt the bill was too high. They have restaurant prices anyway, but we thought something didn't add up. We questioned the bill and, after more than ten minutes, we discovered that we'd been charged over £30 for beer that should have been around £17. When I questioned how that could have happened, the member of staff said "I must have pressed the wrong buttons". We'd also been charged £1.50 for 50ml jug of extra gravy I'd asked for a bit more because there wasn't much on my plate. Never had to pay for extra gravy before, but they're charging £30 per litre! When I questioned this I had not been told there would be a charge, the staff member just said "sorry". It's a lovely pub with a nice outdoor area, and we probably will go again, but not to eat. If you eat there, enjoy the food, but our advice would be to check your bill carefully.
Wonderful experience at this establishment. Dog-friendly Staff are friendly and attentive. Delicious food & served with speed. Definitely recommend.
Top drawer Sunday Roast spot. The Whole Smoked Chicken was epic. Great team and service by the team at The Walrus. Check out when next in New Cross
We came across an ad or post on IG or FB for tacos somewhere so visited this place to see how good they really were. It was pretty empty when we got there with just another family on another table. The beer menu is your standard types which is mostly good for my taste so no complaints there. The main star of the show is the El Comelon taco menu. There were a range of classic authentic mexican options. You get 3 to a plate, which is just enough. There is also some other sides like tacos with salsa or guac. We got Al Pastor and fish tacos. The Al pastor I felt were a little too chewy - but did have an amazing taste. The fish tacos, full disclosure, taste like corner fish'n'chips fish wrapped in a tortilla. They did taste good though, so don't feel like you shouldn't get them. Overall recommend.
Great spot for calm and laid back drinks, amazing food and a great, friendly and welcoming team delivering the best customer service. Has a real chilled vibe on weekday evenings with nice and warm low lighting. Also has a great Garden if you visit in Summer - totally worth it!
3 of us attended first time. Very good food at reasonable prices. I had the burger with chips very tasty. Nice atmosphere in the pun and attentive staff. Will visit again and recommend.
The staff were really nice and the atmosphere is fine but we went on a sunday and the pulled pork and pulled beef roasts weren't good, the meat was bland and the sauce was strange. It was like a cross between ketchup, sweet and sour and gravy. The potatoes tasted frozen. There was also a hair in one of the meals. I dont want to be overly harsh about the hair because that could happen anywhere as a one off, but it didn't help. The roast chicken was nice though. I'd go back for drinks but not for a roast.
