As a feeder school we are very impressed with the care and attention taken to welcome and support our pupils. Mr Prosser and his staff look after all our children's needs or questions. All pupils return having had the best day ever. The Senco and transition teacher have given a lot of time to making transition smooth and achievable. We are grateful and pleased to have such a dedicated secondary school on our doorstep. Recently we have enjoyed swimming, use of their hall for our play and many challenge days focusing on high attainers, popular interests and sports.
My son is coming to the end of he's second year at The Downs School and I have to say I am very pleased with how he is progressing now. He really enjoys going to school and is looking forward to going into year 9 and is already talking about which GCSE's to take!
I went to collect my gcse art portfolio and was accosted at the gates by the very aggressive and confrontational art teacher. I was told I had entered the school illegally, had no right to collect my work even though I needed it for my new college the following week and was told to hand it over. The following week my mum was marched into a small room by the Headmaster and told off like a naughty child. When she asked for an assurance that they would return the portfolio the Headmaster replied "when we're ready" and walked off, not a very mature response. At my new college I learned more about art in the last two weeks i.e life drawing, perspective, tone than the last five years at the Downs. I'm very disappointed by their attitude.
Thorough, no stone unturned to turn out outstanding pupils
