We had a one night stay here which overall was lovely. We had a Thai massage which was very good in a lovely relaxation hub. Then we had lunch in the English restaurant, we used the set menu options which overall made it very good value for money, the food was really nice. I saw some reviews of dry meat with the roasts but we didn't find that at all! Finally the room itself was nice, the bed was really comfortable. The furniture is a bit dated for sure but still absolutely in usable condition and comfy. Overall it's slightly overpriced for what it is but it's something different to experience! The staff are lovely and so keen to help. The village is quiet with nice shops to walk around.
I think a lot of the previous negative reviews about this place are quite unfair based on our experience last night!nnOur room was amazing a suite, zero complaints. Yes it might be ‘dark’ but this is exactly what you see in the advertising. Very spacious, the bath and bathroom were incredible and amazing blackout curtains for a good night sleep in a comfy bed. The cocktails, yes, a little expensive as expected this close to London and in a fancy establishment!!, were amazing and strong too. The bar staff were young and bubbly - no issues with service here.nnWe had Thai for dinner and this was a 5/5 dining experience. Not rushed at all, add incredible food. £120 deducted from our bill for the £45 each dinner credit and bottle of wine allocation. Staff were amazing.nnBreakfast was also lush. Only continental included in the deal maybe this could be made a little more obvious in booking to avoid dissappointment however it was an impressive continental and could order as much as you like. We paid the extra for the salmon and eggs and it was worth every penny.nnMost of the receptionists were pleasant especially a young girl with short hair who was very helpful, and Irene at breakfast gave exceptional service.nnOverall, we had a fabulous time and would come back again as a treat. I would urge you to ignore the negative reviews and make your own decision!
The room was great and we enjoyed the food and drinks, although the drinks are hugely overpriced. The decor was lovely and it’s a beautiful setting.nThe guy that showed us to our room and ladies on reception when we checked in were great but that is where the good service ended. I waited so long after we finished our main course for them to clear the plates and offer desserts that I gave up and asked for the bill. The waitress then told us “it might not look busy but it is and we have a private function” but they should staff accordingly with the prices they charge, it shouldn’t affect our very expensive stay and meal. She then told us if we leave a 5 star review they will give us a bottle of champagne on our next visit. I want good service, not freebies for leaving good reviews. They should work on the service rather than bribing people to leave good reviews!nFinally when I checked out I was charged £75 for the late check out and drinks I’d ordered to the room which I was expecting. I asked these could be deducted from the £150 they had held at check in. She said quite rudely “no, that is for incidentals” and I said those things would be incidentals and she said “no, they are extras”.. I am attaching here a dictionary explanation of incidentals, showing that it means extras” what a ridiculous rude response. So I paid £75 and have to wait for the £150 which they apparently took for no good reason as I wasn’t allowed to use it for incidentals/extras and will get that back “in a few days”.nGreat place, awful service unfortunately!
Really disappointed. £400 for a tired old room with lights hanging off the wardrobe and a shower you have to run around in to get wet. When arriving in reception the carpet was dirty and it smelt horrible. Which was just a sign of what was to come. The entire hotel was tired with rotten rusty flower pots around the outside drinking area and wripped curtains everywhere. The Thai restaurant I could cook better myself and we were charged £7 each for rice!!!!! The drinks were way over priced at £16 per cocktail. And £50 for bottle of wine. Overall really disappointed and just living off their name. Do not recommend. Dirty and disgusting.
Bought a Thai tasting deal from Groupon. We weren't in the Crazy Bear, we were told it was down the road and to knock on a wooden door.nFood was very good. Ample glass of champagne.nWe ordered one glass of wine extra and when we paid, we were presented with a £31 bill as there is 13% service charge.nNo idea this was coming, so it left a sour taste to the experience. Look at the actual location, we picked Beaconsfield, as you won't be in the main building.
