My 1st visit to the Newsroom. Im a brand new Climber..It's more challenging than the other Arena in Maryhill due to the insloping walls. They have a dedicated Children's arena which is incredibly cute and they host Birthday Parties too. Helpful friendly staff. Nice clean tidy space. Cafe has some great snacks and drinks.
Great experience here. Took 2 groups of children from an out of school care. Chill vibe with some excellent staff and instructors. Very helpful and excellent with the kids. A great experience for the kids to learn climbing while having fun. Highly recommend !
What a wonderful gym for families and for adult climbers. The setting was awesome, whom ever is setting there knows the way of the rock. Very minor comp style in the harder grades but stays true to outdoor movement.nnWent early which was awesome because barely anyone there so I could just sample as many routes as possible. The grading was decent and I'd say accurate if you're able to tell grades without numbering e.g. you know a V6 when you climb one.nnOne critique it looks like the routes get ALOT of traffic which makes some of harder grades that rely on some friction dependent moments a bit annoying because you're prone to dry fire and we all know on a max crimp a dry fire is the last thing we want when we're cranking on a half pad for a little training session.nnEither way worth the two hours I spent praying to the rock gods. Cheers and keep up the great atmosphere.
Likes:nLots of different wall types and gradients.nLots of comp type climbs using large sloping holds, which I haven’t seen that much in other gyms.nHas a gym.nStaff friendly.nGood place to store your things while you climb, in the climbing area.nSpacious changing rooms.nNice area with walls just for kids.nNice looking cafe and the food looked good.nNear public transport.nnDislikes:nEvery hold in the gym is dirty, completely covered in chalk or rubber.nSome holds so covered in rubber that the rubber comes off onto your hands.nThere seemed not to be many climbs for beginners, my sister and I have been climbing for 2yrs, and found that we could hardly send anything aside from jug ladders.nThe gym is not super well lit, as there is no natural lighting from inside so for us it felt a bit dark.nThere is not much space on the mats, even with 50-60 people in the gym we felt very crowded, the gym is not that big.nnI would say, if you are a climber that can’t climb V3s or V4s consistently there will not be much you can send in this gym.
The Climbing Academy is an excellent bouldering gym! Spent about 2 hours here on the wide variety of climbs, which were suitable for all skill levels. The place was very clean and the staff were kind. There are lots of locker spaces available to put your shoes and belongings as well as a space to train. I didn't bring any, but they also have a huge climbing space for younger kids! Great experience.
