One I’ve the best restaurants I’ve been too! My boyfriend and I stopped over here for a quick bite to eat. The interior was beautiful, lovely lit candles inside and fantastic staff. We were seated immediately and were served super quickly. I had a cheese soufflé & calamari for a quick snack… the cheese soufflé was the best I’ve ever had! I highly recommend booking this place, it was the perfect place to start off our trip to the Cotswolds. Thank you!
We have been to The Chequers twice now whilst visiting the Cotswolds. The first time was exceptional and we couldn't wait to go back. Unfortunately, this time we found the service to be very slow even though it wasn't very busy on a Wednesday and the food was okay, but nothing to shout home about. I had the padron peppers as a side and the ricotta gnudi main. The padron peppers were nice, but a little bitter probably from the grill. I think these would be so much better if they came with an aioli sauce or something similar. The gnudi was a pleasant surprise, very light and airy and paired well with the swiss chard and pea puree. As a vegetarian, there was an okay choice of mains with a salad, gnudi and gnocchi, but think it would be great if they offered something a little bit different especially considering how big the menu actually is. Vegetarian options: There are some options, but a little limited. More variety would be good, especially considering how big the menu actually is. On the mains there was a choice of salad, gnudi or gnocchi. You could order off the starters, e.g. the cheese souffle and then maybe get a side of potatoes. I did this the first time we visited. Parking: Parking is very limited outside the pub. Most likely you'll need to park on the street. This is okay, but the road the pub is on is quite narrowe and bendy.
This has been one of my favourite locals for a few years now, especially after a muddy dog walk. Great staff, food and drinks. I can’t recommend enough.
My partner and I agreed - the best gastropub we have ever been to, and a place we will happily be returning to next time we visit the Cotswolds. Booking online was easy and we were seated inside a lovely room by friendly helpful and informative staff able to anger questions about the food and inform us of the specials. We split the off the nibbles to start and each was superb! We had the scotch egg with brown sauce sauce was homemade and delicious buttermilk chicken with herby aioli and the crab arancini with squid ink aioli between the two of us pictured and they were superb, with the fish and the beer-battered haddock with chips, peas and tartare sauce for the main, which was absolutely huge. Too full to look at the dessert menu this time but couldn’t recommend this place enough. Exceptional.
What a great pub! Everything in the menu sounds delicious. It’s very hard to choose! The atmosphere is lovely and cosy.Recommended dishesFish Finger Burger with Fennel Slaw
Had Sunday dinner here this evening with the family and it was superb. When we got there it was really busy so had to get their attention but once we got it the service was great. The food is amazing with lots of choice and drink selection is brilliant. Cant recommend enough it was a lovely time. Very dog friendly too!
We made a last minute booking, were made very welcome and had a totally delicious Thai duck salad and sea bass. The sticky toffee pudding to follow was absolutely the best we've ever eaten. The owner checked with everyone that they were happy. The interior has high vaulted ceilings stone floors padded leather banquettes and huge wall art created from an enormous German beer barrel and large mining clocking in counters. Great food great welcome great place Highly recommended
Really good gastropub. I had the mushroom risotto, which was excellent. Cozy atmosphere, reasonable prices - a must visit when you are in the Cotswolds.Food: 5/5
I took my Mum to the Chequers for lunch yesterday. We’ve never been before but we will definitely be back. My Mum is disabled so the flat access is wonderful, and no steps inside either which is so unusual in an old characterful building. The staff were incredible, so helpful and kind and the food was delicious. A very easy 5*.
