"A Castle built on sand... The Castle has been described as 'the gem of Bude'.The stunning Grade II listed building has been converted into a dedicated heritagecentre that explores local history and culture.Accredited by the Arts Council,it also has a regularly-rotating exhibition programme showcasing both local andnational artists. The programme is not confined to any one style or medium; from abstract to figurative; landscape to representational, printmaking to photography, and furniture, too. There's so much to see and do at The Castle, that you'll be glad to take a rest during your visit and taste the delights from our Cafe Limelight. The Castle is also a licensed wedding venue for weddings and civil ceremonies."

Grade II listed Castle Bude offers lots to see and do for free. Open daily from 10 am The Castle is home to The Heritage Centre, two galleries and a gift shop. Explore Bude’s history. Café Limelight, serves drinks, light lunches or cakes. Large outside dog-friendly decking area open throughout the year.
Great place inside and out. A quick walk around outside gives a good feel for the place before going inside The interior and galleries are worth at least an hour though younger children might find it a little boring. The gift shop offers the usual themed stuff and the café is clean but isn’t too pricey. Partly dog friendly in that they are allowed in the conservatory but not the castle proper. There are some parking spaces in adjoining streets but these fill quickly. The nearest easy car park is adjacent to the information centre a few minutes walk away.
A great place to visit while you are in Bude. You can discover so much about its history with some great displays and artefacts. I especially enjoyed the information about the training involved for the D-Day pointe du Hoc mission . Bude turned out to be very similar to the Normandy beaches and the cliffs were ideal for the training needed to scale the dangerous pointe du Hoc! I was also surprised to discover that Bude not Newquay was the first seaside resort in the UK to introduce surfing ! When you are not enjoying the museum you have some rooms filled with local art. There's a lovely conservatory in which you can sit to enjoy coffees and cakes with a great view of the beach and sand dunes. It has different levels to enter and has lifts for the disabled. Free admission. Toilets. Bookshop with gifts. A must see place .
We popped into the castle cafe for a drink and a bite to eat and was the second time we have visited the cafe here. The food was lovely fresh and very tasty as were the drinks. The sandwich came with a side salad and crisps which was nice and the soup was lovely with some nice bread to go with it. We also had a cream tea which was really tasty and lovely views looking out over Bude beach. The staff were very friendly as well. Definitely recommend and will be back on our next visit. We walked around the museum part of the castle on our last visit and was very interesting giving history of the local area.
Great views, nice food, portions a little small, or would have been 5*
Excellent well kept reminder of the past and the ingenuity of unsung heros. Lovely welcome at the door with just enough information to draw you in.
Free and very interesting to read all about the history of the area.Cafe if lucky enough to get a table has a fantastic veiw out to sea.Or sit outside in good weather.
Had a lovely afternoon tea, fresh sandwiches, an assortment of delicious cakes and scones. Really tasty, unrushed and great staff .
Excellent venue with free entry to the small but we'll curated museum with lots of local interest items. Good quality cafe with an outside terrace and enclosed conservatory with views over the beach. Well worth a visit.
A lovely cafe, wonderful views from the glass room at the back across the bay. Good coffee and fab shortbread. Also really good meals, and afternoon teas. Thoroughly recommend museum as well. One of our favourite places to visit.
