When I think of old fashioned pub grub, I think of a warm welcome, a quality meal, value for money and a good sized hearty portion. Let me tell you that the Bowd Inn delivered on all counts. The mid-week carvery deal is definitely the way to go. I have no hesitation in recommending The Bowd. I would recommend booking a table beforehand. It gets quite busy with "mature diners".
Great carvery and good atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient and made a suitable fuss over my toddler. There is a superb walk just next to the pub but I'd rather keep it to myself so I'm not posting details and hopefully any readers won't Google it and clog it up with grockles
Superb food, exceptionally quick service and friendly staff. Very reasonably priced food, particularly in the current climate, and some very good real.ale on the pumps
The most exceptional carvery l eaten in a long time. Lovely choice of vegetables and meats perfectly presented and cooked . Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will be back again soon. Highly recommend the Bowd Inn.
Lots of friendly staff. We enjoyed the carvery at the special over 55 price as my husband had just celebrated his 56th birthday. Plenty to eat with a nice choice of veg. I expect this gets very busy so may be worth booking.
Reopened & back from the dead! The Bowd, a family run Pub Restaurant near Sidmouth, has at last reopened following its sudden, and so far unexplained, closure. The Bowd has always been by a long way the Best Carvery in the Area in terms of both Quality & Value for Money. Their Farmhouse Carvery returned from 30th March, ours was delicious and cost £14.95, but it may be a little more on Sundays. The Main Menu is limited at present but has something for everyone. Our Lemon Cheesecake with Mango Sauce to follow was delicious. They are operating with a reduced staff, we only saw three, but the Service was friendly and accommodating. The Restaurant area was relaxed and warm with the radiators fully on, a haven on a Cold & Rainy Spring day. Currently their Advertising & Publicity warrants a little more attention. We only found out that the Bowd had reopened as we happened to drive past recently. Even some weekly FB Posts & Photos would help enormously. At this point they are only open from Thursday to Sunday 11:45am to 3pm. Let's hope they return to full opening soon. Welcome Back to the Bowd, and as far as our family are concerned, we've really missed you!
Found us a table although very busy. Food not the best but we had carvery so was as expected. Staff were lovely and we left full and satisfied. Very good value
Recently attended for our work Christmas lunch. We were a very large party and were looked after excellently by Nyah and her team. Food was fantastic and the level of service and attention was superb. Firmly recommend The Bowd and give a huge thank you to the wonderful staff.
7 of us booked. Table for 1430hrs.We didn't get on the table 1445 and was then told they would appreciate if we could leave the table by1545 as they had a table for 20 booked in for 1600hrs. We did as requested but couldn't find anywhere else to sit to have coffee and was told there was nowhere to sit we won't go back. Even though the food wad delicious.
A typical Devon pub with a thatched roof and an open fire. The carvery was exactly what we wanted for a roast dinner. Reasonably priced and saved cooking at home. I heard that The Bowd is now closed which is a real disappointment.
