My father went into the Borrins after we had visited a number of potential homes. He chose the Borrins because the emphasis was resident focused.nIt’s a big change at 98 to choose to give up your independence but the team are experienced at responding to new residents.nThe food was plentiful too much he said! all cooked on the premises and he had the pleasure of eating food that he hadn’t had for years. When his appetite was diminishing the cooks would enquire what he wanted.nThe home is kept clean and laundry done promptly.nThe carers are experienced with occasional agency workers, as can be necessary.nThe room sizes vary as do the rates for the rooms. Dad calculated that what he was paying for gardener, cleaner, a house that needed significant investment with an inefficient boiler etc and hot delivered meals, the price of a home wasn’t as expensive as he thought. The benefit of 24/7 care cannot have a price on it. The night staff were as capable as the day staff.nThe home flagged changes in health promptly to family and sought advice appropriately from healthcare professionals. There was a good relationship with the surgery and I know my Dad would not have had the healthcare support in his own home that he got in the Borrins.nAs it became clear that Dad was reaching the need for end of life care the support that Dad and the family received was superb. His wishes were paramount.nIt’s a big deal to choose a care home, I wish I had known that Dad was going to be cared for as well as he was.nThe current manager wasn’t in place when the CQC reported on the Borrins. Leadership by example, talking & listening to residents, chatting to family all set the resident focused culture, they’re a team.nWas everything perfect every minute of every day? Of course not, a care home has many challenges. That said I am pleased that Dad chose the Borrins.
