Very comfortable and extremely well run Wetherspoons pub. The staff work hard at keeping this place clean and presentable. Friendly too! A very enjoyable visit, it is spacious ond comfortable, with good prices on food and drinks. Small outside drinking area in a sunny courtyard at the front. Truly recommend... Best managed Wetherspoons I have been to in years.
Friendly staff and speedy service. Although there were a few problems. Firstly the toilets were poorly lit and a little untidy. The coffee was weak and poorly filtered and the eggs served with my breakfast would've bounced if dropped see photo. I regularly visit Wetherspoons Pubs regularly and this one is well below par.
Definitely not one of Wetherspoons finest pubs. Food is average at best. Attached photo is an egg. I have no idea how it has ended up looking like that. Toilet are possibly the worst wetherspoons toilets I have been in. 6 of the 10 cubicles had no light, so reduced to peeing in near complete darkness. There are also a number of broken lights around the rest of the pub. So I presume they have fell out with all local electricians! Filter coffee in wetherspoons is usually very good. Normally no sugar needed. Here however, coffee looks more like tea, is extremely weak and so I had to add sugar to it to make it drinkable. This was a cup from two different "batches" and no change. I didn't stuck around for a third. Service however was friendly and reasonably quick for the time of day we were in.
Had to send back my fish and chips after waiting half an hour as it was cold. Replacement was fine. No tables being cleared at all, people having to do it themselves
Coffee; poor, like dishwater, even after asking for it to be refreshed. Eggs; vastly overdone, old, unpleasant. Staff were pleasant and friendly, though we did have to ask to have the table wiped. Definitely need to get someone in to replace some bulbs - both in the restaurant and in the toilets - very dark atm. Not up to Wetherspoons standard.
Overall a nice visit, but plenty of improvements to be made. The place has a feel of general grubbiness and the upholstery is very old and tattered one chair at our table had really big rips in it. The service was really fast, both for drinks and the delivery of food. The staff were chatty and helpful. Didn't have any smoothies for the wee one though nephew which was unfortunate, but the staff were happy to suggest an alternative and he was very happy with that.
Food was awful. Fish was well over cooked and the batter was solid. Mash potatoes look like they were from a packet and were not nice at all. And cheese pasta looked like it have been reheated in a microwave and was very bland. Only good thing was the chips. Service was excellent from the young girl that served us. And place was clean enough. Just food was a huge let down.
You understand why other pubs fear Witherspoon opening. The price and format is right. Had an American Breakfast, not had one of those since the pancake place was a thing! Excellent and a decent coffee. Noticed great selection of real ale and gin, safe to say, I will be back
Was in spoons two weeks ago in which one of the bartenders had a personal problem straight off the mark, consistent negative vibes and below polite throughout the evening. My girlfriend tried to order a final drink still within hours to which the bartender made every effort to ensure she was not being serviced and to then say I was not getting served, baring in mind I hadn’t been drinking or over an hour at this point. To then be told to leave, which we happily did. Two days ago I was in having a casual few drinks, no conflict or drama whatsoever. Went in this evening to be told that I’m barred for apparently giving abuse to one of the managers... I never spoke to a manager the entire time. The manager speaking to me wasn’t even there, no margin to explain the matter whatsoever. Extremely below par attitude from some of the staff considering I attend every other night. Bitterly disappointing.
It's a spoon's, accept that and you won't be disappointed. It was fairly clean, the coffee was quite good and not a bad place for a quick bite. It's quite sympathetically restored inside and the usual spoon's alcoholics were few in number, but it says more about the town than the pub when I say it's one of the more upmarket places in Dalkeith Town centre.
