Really nice little place just outside of Chorley. Staff were lovely, really friendly and allowed us to park overnight in the car park. The car park is quite small and half of it is on quite a steep slope of you're looking to park overnight. Free if you buy food/drink. Not suitable for large motorhomes. Reasonably priced food. We had a roast dinner which was quite nice although no stuffing and the chocolate brownie was a bit burnt. For the price and the atmosphere though I can't complain too much. It was a nice place to be and I'd visit again :
I would give the Black Horse 3.5 stars, the location and the proprietors are nice, though I think the place could do with a revamp. The old dark painted furniture and stone flooring is certainly in keeping with it's reputed 1000 year old history, but it's missing pictures and photos that I would have loved to have seen on the walls, showing the pub throughout it's impressively long and presumably colourful past. Personally I would like to see the dark paint on the seats stripped back to natural wood, both to enhance the seating area and brighten the ambience of the place. The set menus are very traditional more of a vegan / vegetarian/ meat mix would be a suggestion, though I appreciated the creative specials that were on offer that day.
Visited Friday lunchtime. Rather quiet but heating was on and a real fire in the room. Good menu with main meals and a tapas menu. Very pleasant landlady. Two meals taken were the rainbow trout with potato fritters. This came well presented ,hot and well cooked. Very good meal and the way prices are at the moment value for money. Excellent pint of cask Landlord, but not cheap. Well worth the trip out.
Good choice on menu and very tasty. My husband loved his pie and both him and my daughter raved about the chips. My lamb shank was also delicious.
Chilli was really good as was the steak pie. Only downer was that the gravy was salty. Chef test your dishes. Otherwise really enjoyed.
We had 4 lovely meals made with fresh delicious ingredients, prepared and served quickly too -would definitely recommend giving this quaint country pub a try. The lady serving was extremely helpful and the tables + cutlery were spotless also dog friendly and with a spacious car park.
Friday lunch fairly quiet. Nice and warm with log burner. Good old pub atmosphere. Good main menu and separate tapas menu. We both had the trout dish. Excellent. Well presented, hot and cooked just right. Great pint of cask beer.
Great tradutional country pub, cosy with real fires. First visit since it reopened with a new a slightly different menu. Traditional pub classics but now joined with a pizza menu and tapas/Mediterranean dishes. I had a number of tapas dishes and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavour of them. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. Cost wise, and possibly indicative of uk eating out costs right now, the prices of the dishes were on the high side for the quantities served. £7 for Calamari is about right but there needs to be a couple more. The £7 creamy mushrooms seemed expensive for a small portion considering the ingredients but they were delicious. I would have preferred the patatas bravas to have been hand cut cubes of potato, possibly with a spoon of alioli but these should definitely be closer to £5. All portions need to be slightly bigger and then it would be a definite 5 stars. A great pint of Black Sheep on tap too.
Went for some food after a nice walk, had to wait a while before being acknowledged then be sitted but put down to one person doing it all. Then ordered food which was fine and told could be alittle wait on food not a problem. Then receiving food the fish and chips had bones in it and the chunky chips was hard, which was also on my sons plate. So I went and spoke quietly to the bar staff just to let them no and course no fuss, to then have another member of staff come out and try to tell me that fish has bones in it and u will swallow some and the chips wasnt hard and then walked off with an attitude before we could speak. Bear in mind we had already paid and wasn't asking for nothing back just to make them aware. Absolutely disgusting attitude sorry
We went here for my 64th birthday as the pub was recommended by somebody I know. The food was beautiful, plenty of it, and the staff were very friendly. I will definitely visit again!
