We popped over for a drink and ended up having food. It is a slightly more expensive pub but couldn't fault the food we had. The squid was so thick but not chewy at all, mushroom bruschetta made a change, the Porchetta was lovely and on par with another Oakman Inns I've had it at and my burger was so nice and clearly good quality meat. Would recommend and will go back if we're after more of a treat meal out.
This place is quiet lovely in presenting an excellent balance between an all welcoming including dog country pub and a modern interpretation of contemporary gastropub dining. The bar and open kitchen dominate the 1st part and as you continue in it opens out into a wonderfully bright space adorned by a nice view of the garden area must be nice to sit out there in nice weather. The staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive. A warm smile is never to far away. The menu has a lot of the usual options but nothing that really screamed "try me, eat me." Note to self, pay more attention to the Specials on my next visit! As a quartet, we shared mix of 3 starters, a bottle of prosecco, before moving onto steak dinner 3 fillets and 1 ribeye. All nicely cooked and moderately season. Two Eton Messes and some ice-cream later we were happy campers. This was a Monday night where it went from quiet to near full in 90 minutes. Our bill was a sneeze under £240.00 not including the tip we left but don't let that put you off. Just avoid the fizz and steak dinner for 4 and you'll be fine we were celebrating.
Great selection of food I opted for the chorizo scotch eggs for started, bacon and cheese house burger for main and banoffee sundae for dessert. Overall the food was lovely with a great atmosphere and the staff were very attentive always checking the food was good and on hand for your next drink.
Lots of parking, electric car charging point and wheelchair accessible. Always a great welcome from the host and a lovely atmosphere. The bar selection is vast with a great selection of wines by the glass. Great beer selection and very knowledgeable bartenders. Always had great service from the waiting staff who are attentive and efficient. The food is always a delight and the Sunday roasts are fantastic! Advice booking to avoid disappointment as they do get busy.
An exceptional place with great and very friendly staff. Parking is available on the side and back of the place. Recommended
A really lovely building, Easy parking and a reasonably priced menu with... a very decent desert menu. :
The food was delicious but the service was okay, it could be better.
Starters were both lovely highly rate the meatball skewers but the steak was undercooked twice, we sent it back but it came back in a similar state and we just didn't want to wait since I had finished my meal and rare steak isn't the worst thing you could eat we requested medium. The chicken burger was nice, no complaints on this. The staff did refund the drinks for the steak issue which was nice but you do need to get the main right hence the low rating. Service was slow but this was Boxing day so perhaps they didn't have the usual staff but they were all friendly. The place looked quaint and was dog friendly. Overall im sure it could be better but i wouldn't rush back, maybe a drink during summer as the outdoor area looked nice.
Shocking customer service experience here recently, wouldn't let us sit down for a small bite to eat, because they had a 'coach party' booked for 50mins time. I explained we didn't want a 3 course meal, just a quick stop after a long drive, but refused us service. It's a shame as it's one of those places that looks nice when passing and we had always wanted to stop there, such a shame on that type of customer service.
Lovely location and great staff, as others have said it's expensive and the food was OK, a little bland if anything. Surprised to see the food was served so plainly on the plate chicken burger and fries with nothing like a salad decoration or coleslaw. I would go back as other than price there was nothing fundamentally wrong and the location is lovely, it just wouldn't be the top of my list.
