I had lunch here with a friend just before the New Year. It was a last-minute change and on reflection, we're both glad we opted for the Angel instead. The surrounding area is extremely pretty and there is free parking nearby though as one might imagine in a picturesque part of the Cotswolds, spaces disappear quickly. The Angel is a lovely pub and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming as though you were a regular there. It was a busy time of day for the staff but they soaked it up. We weren't waiting long for drinks being ordered via table service and they gave us time to decide on our starters and mains. Both of us were enormously impressed with both courses we had - our starters and mains were different to each other. My steak was cooked perfectly and the hand-cut chips were something else in a very positive way. The portions were a good filling size. I was so happy with the food and service that my pudding stomach emerged and I ordered the dessert special. We were both hugely impressed with the whole experience and openly talked about it there, which I don't recall having done so enthusiastically about anywhere else we'd had lunch or breakfast. I have no reservations whatsoever recommending the Angel and I'd be very happy to visit again. I didn't know of its reputation and having won awards in the past and I'd say from my own experience that they are very well-earned.
Called in on the off chance on a Friday evening, they were fully booked but kindly allowed us to have a meal so long as we finished before the table was needed - not a problem !! The fish was gorgeous and the chicken and leek pie amazing. good choice of proper beer, very kind friendly staff, and the whole place looks amazing in all it's decorations. Many thanks all
What a beautiful Sunday lunch. They are known for their pies, so we took a risk and ordered them rather than the roast.... It paid off One of the best pies I've ever had. So so delicious. The roast looked epic as well. Next time
Excellent local food and drink, great atmosphere and very friendly staff who went the extra mile to help with our slightly awkward decaf liquor coffee order. Only minor point would be the only low alcohol beer they had, San Miguel, isn't the best, but my fault really as I should have sorted a taxi so I could have a proper drink! Would definitely return
Gorgeous Sunday lunch today at The Angel. A relaxed and casual setting with excellent service and a beautiful pork roast lunch. Thank you to the manager for amending my reservation so we could make it at last-minute!
Wonderfully cosy pub. Friendly, helpful staff. Very welcoming and found us a lovely table without a booking. Food was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend.Service: 5/5
Had visit fir Christmas present. Location was off the high Street, so was pretty quiet. Restaurant was constantly filled, food was excellent. Breakfast was great too and service from arrival to leaving was welcoming and very polite. Deffo a place to stay.Rooms: 5/5
Well before I get onto the pub Burford is one of the Cotswolds secret places a must. The Angel is one of them top pubs to stay simply wonderful quality rooms amazing food and the staff that really do care. A place that we will revisit many times in the coming seasons.
Wiped my forehead with a napkin and was immediately asked to leave. Very abrupt and aggressive staff and still unsure of the reasoning. With more hospitable staff would’ve been a lovely place however they left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Fantastic team. Executive chef Mike leads a fantastic kitchen that produces 5* food every time. They are also all extremely friendly Rooms: 5/5
