Delicious food and very generous portions. Reasonable priced and staff helpful. The only problem we had was we sat down for a lovely meal just as the drilling and sawing started! Obviously refurbishments ongoing but did spoil the meal due to not being able to talk to each other. Looking forward to going back when it's a bit quieter.Food: 5/5
What a fabulous country pub. Nicely decorated and comfortable. Staff were brilliant. Now the food was fantastic beautifuly presented ample portions cooked to perfection. WOW. We even called into the pub for a carvery it was unbelievably amazing the choices of vegetables to many to put on the plate never mind to eat. The price was only £30. For 2 which included drinks. Highly recommend you visit this pub.. Parking: A bigger car park would be an advantage. Although you can park on the street.
Very disappointing. Went here for Sunday lunch and we ordered the Belly Pork with crispy crackling. No cracking on the plate but asked for some. Waiter came out with 2 pieces and told us there wasn't much left. The veg was swimming in water and all looked a bit sad. No one came and asked us how our meal was. The meat itself was nice but the bill came to £28 for 2 Sunday lunches and 2 glasses of pop and we didn't eat the veg as it was so bad. We watched someone drop the clean cutlery she was putting away on the floor and while the young waiter's, waitress and some bloke in a white shirt watched, she picked them up and put them into the clean cutlery drawers! Not good training for the young staff working in there. Also think it needs a good clean as quite a few cobwebs hanging around. Most reviews on here are good but unfortunately today we wasted our money :
We both had the pot of prawns to start, they were very tasty plenty of prawns! I had the fish and chips and my husband had the burger. Both were evidently freshly prepared and had that 'home cooked' feel to them. Highly recommend Dietary restrictions: Had a lot of Gluten Free choices too!
Disappointing Festive Fayre. We were looking forward to a nice Christmas lunch with all the trimmings but sadly the meal fell short of expectations. No sprouts or pigs in blankets and very few veg for our group. It wasn't busy with only three tables of guests but staff seemed distracted. Such a shame as the tree and lights were attractive, shame about the food.I would not recommend on this experience and wish we'd chosen a different venue.
Absolutely superb food my partner is gluten intolerant and catered very well for him. I had one of their vast choices of homemade pies. The pulled pork sage and apple. I have to say its the nicest pie I have ever had and the homemade chips are to die for. Sadly I was so full I couldn't eat it all but Sarah our waitress was happy to put it in a takeaway box for me to take back to our lodge. We will be visiting again with my parents in tow next time. Outstanding!
If you want home made pie's , this is the place to go. A large selection of different kinds. Large choice of other meals on the menu. Kind and friendly atmosphere. We'll worth a visit. Vegetarian options: Options shown in menu Kid-friendliness: Kids menu Parking: Plenty Wheelchair accessibility: One step at front door. That's it.
Had a lovely one night stay here. Staff very friendly and efficient, food delicious, rooms very comfortable. Shower not brilliant but not an issue for one night. Have booked again.Food: 5/5
We drove up to the anchor for dinner in the early evening. They had a big menu with some more unusual options. However the food was more big portions and cut corners than hearty pub fayre. It's heavy on the carbs and light on the substance. The chips were soggy and overcooked, which is so basic as to be unforgiveable. The cheese on my meal was plastic and congealing. The meat was tough and the whole thing felt like it had been thrown together. The staff were inattentive although friendly when they did finally arrive. Service was incredibly slow despite the place being nearly empty when we arrived. Overall passable for pizzas but nothing much to offer beyond that.
Food was lovely and well priced, and service was fast with friendly polite staff. Plus the bar is dog friendly which was perfect for us as we stopped for a bite to eat on our way home from a long walk with the pooch!
