Went to the tea shop for lunch today. Looked small at first glance and we had our dog but the ladies serving said they were dog friendly and we could take her up the stairs where there was extra seating. It was lovely and quaint and the food was fresh and top quality. They even bought treats for the dog with our lunch. The kids had cocoa art on their hot chocolate and there was crayons and stencils for them to create pictures whilst we waited for our food. Nothing was too much trouble. They were really friendly and asked about our holiday so far. Would highly recommend the scones my husband ended up having two cream teas they were so tasty.
Our whole experience with The Almshouse tea shop was great from start to finish. We did make a few specific requests and had to make a change to the date of our booking due to illness but nothing was too much trouble. The lady I dealt with was lovely, as were all the staff. The tea shop is in a gorgeous setting and there were lots of beautiful details inside that made it lovely and unique. The afternoon tea was delicious and made with very high quality ingredients. We were surprised at the variety of sandwich fillings and the home-made scones were still warm and melt in the mouth. The cakes were equally as fresh and delicious with lots of variety, the Bakewell tart was particularly outstanding. The staff were very attentive, offering to top up our tea and pack any leftovers for us. Without a doubt the best afternoon tea we have ever had!
Lovely stop for a cake and drink in the oldest building in Axbridge! Indoor and outdoor seating, free parking directly outside. Staff were fantastic.
Quaint little cafe/tea room and bookshop in the centre of Axbridge, friendly staff and easily accessible with a car park opposite. Seating on two levels with the upstairs accessed via a spiral staircase.nThe afternoon tea was very generous with plenty of sandwiches and cakes. Our only niggle was that when I booked I was asked if we had any special requirements - good, I told them that one of our party had an allergy to garlic and another didn't want any vinegar based dressings. When our afternoon tea arrived, rather than making any special arrangements, we were just told which items contained garlic and/or dressings - not so good I'm afraid.
We thoroughly enjoyed the cheese scones and a huge mug of coffee. It was very busy but we were seated upstairs and the serving staff were very friendly. Beautiful old building, a lovely place for lunch.
