Just got back from a lovely evening of the pantomime. Words can’t describe how funny the cast were tonight. Had me and my wife in floods of laughter. The Dame was fantastic and his side kick muddles. Really well kept when they went off script. Definitely a 10/10 a watch to go and see. Only a hand full of shows to go this year. The singing in the show was fantastic. I will definitely be booking for Christmas 2025. The theatre is on the 3rd floor so if you are not great on your feet there is a lift which will take you to the top floor.
Small compact theatre in need of a refurbishments. Ideal for the local drama club and suitable place for the comedy club that starred comedian seen on Live at the Apoĺlo on television. For the £25 fee good value. Ample parking to the rear and side.
As a SEN carer, I have never had such a negative experience.nnToday, we visited Thameside Theatre in Grays for their Christmas Pantomime. Mum phoned the day before to book the tickets and spoke to a lovely lady who booked the tickets over the phone, it was explained that he would want to sit on the floor as he feels grounded this way, she said she will explain to staff and was very supportive and accommodating to this. Even told us where to sit and booked those specific seats for us.nAs his first experience I was so unsure with how he would react as he’d never been to one before. We went in, all very happy, the staff greeted us nicely and it was all good and we were ready to go. We had the back seats so we had a bit more space for him to be able to regulate himself with sitting on the floor with his ribbon. The staff gave the okay for this and were really happy with him being able to do this.nnSurprisingly, he was so engaged in the pantomime - laughing and really smiling. He was doing so amazing, sitting there quietly and every now and then playing with his ribbon.nnFrom the moment we sat down, the lady in front of us was watching him. She kept turning round and glaring at him when he was playing with his ribbon. She had her arm round her child every time he would move or even laugh and made sure her child didn’t turn round at all. About 30 minutes into the show, a staff member came over to me and said he needed to move back as it wasn’t fair on everyone else. I questioned what exactly wasn’t fair, as he was sitting so nicely on the floor which was okay with staff watching the show. We had a complaint from the lady in front of us that apparently he was hitting a chair in front, which was completely untrue. How can he hit the back of the chair when he’s sitting so nicely next to it?nnThis was where I put my foot down and had enough, so we left.nnUnfortunately for us, they completely ruined his first experience at the Pantomime for us. We will not be recommending at all, as the staff handled the situation absolutely unfairly. And ruined this experience for him.nPhoto for reference this is exactly what he was doing at the very back of the theatre by the back doors causing no harm to anyone.
Good theatre, the staff were friendly and helpful, was there to watch beauty and the beast excellent pantomime the whole family loved it. The theatre itself was a good size, good location, with library and exhibition down stair which the local can go and visit. I just hope they don't knock it down and turn it to a flats.
A small intimate theatre , lacks car park but there is adequate nearby parking available. Surprisingly nice and well equipped considering it is on the upper floor of a brutalist 1960s building. Good disabled access with lifts, small but adequate cafe. The auditorium is spacious, good seating and good sightlines from all areas. A little cold as the a/ c was on during our visit in mid December when heating would have been more appropriate but on the whole an enjoyable experience at this surprisingly good small local theatre which deserves support after recent threats of closure. They attract top touring shows and have great local talent and community events too. I shall return again.
