Saw a review saying the red curry was too spicy and thought I must play Somkids a visit, as haven't had an authentic Thai meal for a long time. Really pleased with the service and food. Had a great chat about food and Thailand with the owner, who's very friendly and understands Thai culture and speaks the language! The green papaya salad was superb! The owner warned us that it's super spicy, and we said "that's what we want and used to!" : The red chicken curry was delicious. It is not extremely hot like the other comment here suggested. After all, what's the point of eating something that's "tuned down" so much that it is no longer what it supposed to be! The chilli and salt squid was very good too!!! Although can't compare to food in Thailand I think the food is still slightly modified to suit the British palate, we are very pleased with it overall. We think food here is much closer to what we had in Thailand than other places we've tried in the UK mostly in London. If you are after "British style Thai food" ie sweet and catchup flavour, this is probably not the place for you. If you are open-minded and want authentic Thai food or want to educate yourself about non British food then you should try this place. If you're not familiar with Thai food, ask for recommendations. For example, red curry is the hottest and there's not much the chef can do if you want to have "not-hot&spicy" red curry - the hint is in its name! Curry is hot and spicy by default. There are many options if you can't take the heat, so ask for recommendations if you're unsure. We asked for extra chilli and fish sauce for our noodles, just to spice up the noodles a little.
I was the first customer at around 6:10pm so there was no excuse for slow service and a complete lack of interest in my presence. The food was OK, my mixed meat starter was clearly reheated and served semi warm. My red Thai curry was a watery mess filled with green beans. I have eaten far better curry’s in far worse places at a far lower cost. My meal for 1 cost £37. Meh. Visited on 28/08/2018
Huge huge portions! Went here on a whim with parents for a meal out. The food was fantastic, I've tried a lot of Thai food fresh, take away, homemade, restaurant and this was up there with some of the best. Everything tasted as though it had been made for me when I placed the order and not before. By far the best part was the Thom Yhum soup, simple but amazing. Nothing over the top, just simple excellent jot Thai soup based on the flavours of the ingredients and nothing more. The only issues I had was with the decor, it was kinda hard to eat while multicolored LEDs flickered over head and the place mats were simple pieces of paper with the menu printed on them. Apart from that I'd recommend them based on flavours, portion sizes and the staff who were fantastic at all times.
When ordered on the phone, specifically asked for a red curry not too spicy but came back home with super spicy food which I can barely eat. Staff also unfriendly on the phone. They offered me a free meal for next time but don't think there will be one... Instead, I would recommend Hansa's Thai Kitchen for a Thai in Weybridge when you can actually reach them on the phone!.
Somkids Thai fitted the 3 of us in without booking on a busy Friday night in Weybridge. Lots of choice, beautiful fresh ingredients, lovely wine for a good price. Staff looking great in traditional outfits, and couldn't have been nicer with our 5 year old daughter. She wants to go back for the pretty dresses and after dinner mint - we'll go back for the fantastic Crying Tiger beef and barbecue king prawns.
Very bad experience mostly due to the main guy who was taking orders. Clearly doesn’t like children and foreign people. He was very rude whole time, Served everyone before taking our order, made it very difficult with the order and at the end openly said he did not like to see the child at the restaurant child was mostly outside, very quiet and sitting at the table when food arrived
I got the distinct impression the english man serving the owner I guess did not have his heart in it. The thai red curry was the first I ever had with little or no coconut milk.
The worst host i have ever seen at a restaurant, he needs to have lessons on how to run a restaurant, friday night .7,30pm and only 2 customers, says it all, no background music, i asked why, he replied, he's not paying hmrc to play music, so have to sit in silence, food is re heated, could do so much better if the guy knew what he was doing. will never go again, wished i had read reviews first
Soo were do i start the massaman curry's we ordered were different mine had new potatoes in with is 15 years of eating massaman i have never had them in any my partners had normal potatoes in and also very spicy and massaman is not a spicy curry so will not be going there again also just to point out there prices are far to expensive for what portions you get..
Good Thai food, the ladies behind the counter were friendly. Prices weren’t as good as you might expect from other food joints in Sheffield
