Deceitful and Dishonest.nDespite their unpleasant pricing activities they always put their prices up dramatically if there’s a shortage or the local Tesco is out of action, I have continued to use their jet wash as it’s usually decent value.nnWent today and put my normal £4 worth on via contactless payment. Nothing happened, so I tried again with £2 worth thinking that at worst both would go through and I’d just have a very thorough wash. Nothing happened again, so I went into the shop for a refund.nnThe guy behind the counter came out with me and asked me to use my card again. I was a bit reluctant as I’d already put £6 through, but he said “don’t worry, we’ll refund it”. Of course it didn’t work, so we went back inside for a refund. He disappeared behind the counter without a word, and didn’t reappear for 7 minutes yes, I kept track. He finally reappeared with two photocopied sheets of paper and said “You need to email these people for a refund.” I told him that I had no intention of emailing anyone. My money had been paid to the shop Arthur Foodstores as shown on my NatWest App, and that they therefore had the responsibility to refund me. He refused so I asked for the manager. The manager told me he couldn’t refund me because the machine was run by a third party. This is a lie. The payment was made to the company that own the shop, and not a third party. He told me it was “policy” to get refunds from the third party. I made it clear that my payment had been made to Arthur Foodstores, and therefore it was Arthur Foodstores that I had a contract with and who owed me a refund. He insisted that it was “policy”. I asked to see that policy, and for him to show me any sign at the jet wash or in the store which showed that refunds were not given in store. He refused to answer me then walked away and went to the back office again. I went out to the machine to see if there is any notice of it being run by a third party, and that refunds could not be given a legal requirement. There was nothing.nnI went back into the store and knocked repeatedly on the door to the rear until the manager appeared. He then threatened to call the police, and I said please do. His approach changed from “I can’t refund you” to “I’m not going to refund you”. I asked why he had lied about the payment being made to the machine operator. He didn’t answer. I asked where the policy was that he had claimed he has to stick by. He didn’t answer. I told him that I was going to dispute the payment with my bank, and I told him that I wanted the machine to be marked as out of order before anyone else lost money there was a car waiting behind mine. He refused. I finally left and put some cones across the front of the jet was bag myself, telling the van driver waiting that it was out of order and that they would refuse to refund him.nnThe manager of this store is demonstrably dishonest. He claimed the payment was not to his company. That is a blatant lie. Liars don’t get my business, and I’ll tell as many people as I can about this dishonest man.
Always able to swoosh into a vacant fuel pump without waiting. And I can always waltz in to pay cashier with no wait.nnThe gentleman serving on Tuesday morning at 6.10am was super chatty!nnOh, and they have a Costa coffee machine here too
Called to ask if they had hot dogs, hot cooked ready to go *was said on the phone, the guy said yes, they don't at all.
Texaco is by far the better filling station in Yateley. Never any queues, machines simple to use, civilised staff. Competitive prices and reliable fuel always.
I remember working here years ago. Very old style shop needs a refurb. But great staff to work with.
