Originally designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the station seamlessly blends its grand historical architecture with the functional needs of a modern transport hub.nn TICKETS: Digital and paper tickets are accepted; numerous self-service machines are available in the main foyer and by the side entrance.nn PARKING: Long-stay and short-stay parking is available on-site, though it can be expensive; a dedicated drop-off and pick-up point is located right outside the main entrance.nn TOILETS: Clean, accessible public toilets and baby-changing facilities are located on the main concourse and near the platforms.nn ACCESSIBILITY: The station features step-free access to all platforms via lifts and subways, with staff available to assist with boarding and navigating the station.
Temple Meads Railway Station was built in 1840 and is a Grade I listed structure. It is the busiest station in the South West of England. It was built on the site of what was the world's largest wholesale carrot market. Carrots were imported from all over the globe and frantically traded before they spoiled. Several tons of carrots passed through the market on a daily basis. The trains in the newly built Temple Meads helped distribute the carrots throughout the country. It's rumoured that Bugs Bunny left his Hollywood home to live in Bristol due to the lure of the vegetable.
This was a brilliant station for arrival and departure, with lengthy platforms for the services! Signs help with navigation and the architecture is grand, underpass helps walk between platforms too. Water refillable is efficient and cleanliness was maintained, easy to access exits!
Beautiful, historic Victorian splendour with a modern twist , great place with excellent facilities and lovely people. Taxi and bus pick up available from the entrance. Overall a great place.
If you have not yet bought a ticket, don't buy it at the station. Use an online app. I purchased a ticket for a one way journey and it cost £75. I was in a hurry so I paid it. Checked on a well known app afterwards and ticket would have been £38. Quite a difference. Not much on-platform seating either.
