Story

Swindon's remarkable art collection has a reputation as one of the best of British 20th Century Art outside London. It was established by local benefactor, H J P Bomford, during 1944 from a generous donation of works.

Swindon Museum has displays of local history, archaeology and geology. The museum displays tell the story of Swindon's Jurassic past, its connections with the Roman Empire and the more recent social history of this thriving town.

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery have various events running throughout the year.

Located in the Old Town area, it is a small museum over 3 floors & a larger art gallery annexe, the museum rotates it's collection of artifacts to exhibit as many as possible. The Art gallery shows many of Swindon's collection of modern British art, the most important collection outside of London. Friendly knowledgeable staff are on hand for any questions. Entrance is free & it's a good way to spend a couple of hours.

Very nice place, some of the art collection was not the best, it is swindon after all. The museum section was excellent who knew there was an Egyptian mummy in Swindon....

There is a exhibition at the moment from Severnake community centre, there is a show case of knitted famous dolls as well as other things.

A free attraction in Swindon's Old Town.  It's a real step back in time with products from yesteryear that were made in Swindon, dinasors and a mummie.  Lots of photos and pleanty to see for all ages. Plan about 45 minutes to an hour. Art gallery is worth a ponder.
