A lovely little shop / cafe in Lavenham, kids really wanted an ice cream, and me and the wife really wanted a hot drink. Downstairs you can get take out ice cream and buy sweets / cake upstairs there is seating if you want to take it a little more relaxed. There was no one in the cafe part when we went, which is just as well as being an old building its a bit tight if a few people in there...! Kids loved their ice creams, one have a couple of different chocolate ones scoop of chocolate and a scoop of mint chocolate and the other had a random combo scoop of cola cube and a scoop of orange. Its fair to say the orange was a big hit with both wanting it in the end more than the chocolate to my surprise! Wife had a raspberry chocolate cake which was very nice and I had a cream tea, which to be honest I didn't see much of as everyone else ate most of it!! I got a few cups of tea out of the pot I had, so was nice and refreshed by time of leaving. Great place if its not too busy, but be aware it's an old place so room is a bit tight...!!
Small and lovely, real gem. Great food, sumptuous cakes varried choice. Only reason it is 4 stars rather than 5 is because the building, beautiful though it is does not allow disabled access. But all in all great cafe.
Absolutely superb little café and crazily cheap. This family-run place offers a wide range of freshly prepared dishes all at extremely reasonable prices. I had delicious bouillabaisse; my partner has a local ham and blue cheese omelette. Then we shared excellent banana cake with an experimental strawberry and beetroot coulis. Everything was great. Highly recommended!
Sweet Meats is a friendly tiny quirky tea room and sweet shop in Lavenham. The home cooked menu is extensive, original and provides a good selection of tasty vegetarian dishes and desserts. The jazzy background music is very soothing and overall it is a surprising venue and overall experience.
Well, what a lovely experience it was having lunch at Sweetmeats. Eclectic, funky and the food was delicious and reasonably priced!. No boring sandwiches here but handmade, to order, delicious food. Salads, soups, cakes, hot meals, lovely coffee and somehow, apart from serving and cooking and baking and prepping, the owner also manages to make delicious ice cream, chocolates and fudge. We cannot recommend this place enough. Graham and Jane
I've been twice - a year between visits. The two ice creams I was served are in competition for worst ice cream I have tasted. On the first visit my dad refused to eat his and binned it. The second time my 5-year old nephew refused his both flavours!. The place has some great reviews for its food in the cafe, and I'm sure that's true. I'm also sure that dairy-free ice cream as many flavours are is tricky to get right. But if you can't improve it, just stop..... And at £4 a cone? Come on!!
It’s so sweet lovely food and the ice cream and the place lovely amazing stunning
Went here today. An amazing place to eat. Very lovely couple.was after a late breakfast. The owner was amazing he cooked up double muffin with egg and bacon. With a side of salad. It's the best late breakfast I've had. Nothing was too much trouble. Didn't get a chance to try the lovely ice cream or sweets. A must to try. Many thanks for a lovely meal. Hope to pop back again
The service was friendly but rushed, as the member of staff was responsible for running both the tearoom/kitchen upstairs and the sweet shop downstairs. The decor in the seating area is dated and claustrophobic. Our drinks arrived promptly, but I have concerns for the cleanliness of the glasses, mugs etc. Although we were planning on staying for food, we left after drinks. The tea served did not taste like breakfast tea, it was weak and floral. We were not asked what type of tea we would like, but other customers were. I would be keen to learn how the seafood dishes are prepared - there is no visible kitchen area.
The ice cream was not good. The ice cream tasted very old as the sensation was like having sandy ice cream rather than creamy texture. We binned our ice cream. It was also quite expensive for what it was. There are much nicer ice cream places in Lavenham than this place. I will not go back to this place again.
