Swanage Beach is a really lovely, compact spot with a great pier. Everything you need is right there and close together—cafes, toilets, the sand, and the sea.We visited with our kids in May.nIt is probably not the best spot for swimming as there was quite a lot of seaweed near the shore, and the water was very cold! However, the water gets reasonably clean if you wade out a bit deeper. The sand here is a unique dark grey color.Despite the chilly water, I thoroughly enjoyed sunbathing with a coffee and a delicious cherry amaretto ice cream from the local cafe, which has a fantastic variety of flavors. The open shower on the beach is a great touch for rinsing off salt and sand.nThere is also a nice mini-golf course right in front of the beach, so there are plenty of things to keep the kids entertained. Definitely worth a visit! That said, if you prefer golden yellow sand and crystal-clear deep water, Bournemouth might be a better match for you.
A long sandy beach in a bay. Swim by the lifeguard tower for extra safety but the bay makes swimming pretty safe. The far end of the beach ends and the quayside walkway starts with the cellar bar at the Mowlem theatre. This is a personal favourite for an evening drink with a great view, before the short journey to one on the lovely restaurants and pubs in town. There's also a good collection of shops and cafes at the town end of the beach, along with some nice antique shops.
EnglishnnA wonderful beach that is truly the heart of Swanage. Wide, sandy, and beautifully maintained, it's perfect for families, relaxing by the sea, or enjoying a long walk along the coast. Even on busier days, there's plenty of space to sit back and take in the stunning views. With cafés, restaurants, and local attractions just a short walk away, it's an excellent place to spend the entire day.
A fantastic location to visit, as has something for everyone. The arcades and walls for crabbing are hits with the kids, but it’s the shallow bay and sandy beach that does it for most. There are a number of lovely cafes for those wanting to relax out of the sun, plus many pubs and bars for the young revellers. It really is like stepping back in time, especially if you come down via the steam railway.
Street parking available, but it's quite pricey. We parked at Coop next to steam train station and walked just a few minutes. The beach is clean, sand and gravel. Still really pleasant place for dog walking. The way back can be walked on the promenade.
