Sugar Supper Club

About

Classic cooking and new beginnings

Story

Sugar Supper Club is located on Sugar Island in Newry City, an area with a long history of merchant trading and sugar warehouses. In recent years, it has become the main financial and business centre of the city, as well as the location of the city's Town Hall and Art's Centres. It is a stone's throw from the district courthouse and central bus station.
Co-owners head chef Aidan Markey and restaurant manager Kim Torley strive to make our bistro something a little bit different for the Newry area. Aidan is classically trained in French cuisine, which is reflected in his ever-changing menu.
Both owners pride themselves on using locally and ethically sourced prouduce whenever possibly, an effort that has earned them a silver level award from the Green Tourism board.

Food was just about edible. Place was filthy. Floors clearly not brushed all day. Do not use the toilet Bunch of teenagers working behind the counter. Dry chicken burger no dressing when I asked for some mayo for the burger I was going to be charged £1.50. AVOID
Me and my partner were In newry for our MOT so we stopped at friar tucks, we’d never been before as we live in Belfast. He was going to order a taco chip but Fiona the cashier had suggested the chicken burger and chicken pieces so he scrapped the taco chip and got a chicken burger, super chip their special chicken gravy sauce and a strawberry milkshake & I got the 2 piece chicken, chips, special chicken gravy and a choc milkshake… it’s was SOOOO good! It’s almost like KFC but a little bit healthier, I don’t know if it’s an insult or compliment describing their food as KFC I suppose it’s subjective to the eater but it was soo good! Their gravy was delicious. Not going to lie their milkshakes weren’t all that but their food defo out weight the milkshakes.. the woman who works their called Fiona was so so lovely! We probably will be back as we failed the MOT
Place has really gone downhill. Used to be nice but recently everything is so dry!! Had the Super FT meal and the chips had barely any sauce on them and the chicken in the burger was dry….Hardly any batter going round the chicken and the burger bun itself was rubbery!!! Last year was ordering from them and it was lovely have no idea whats happened to them now…
This place has unbelievable chicken wraps fresh salad and Coleslaw to die for! Truly a staple of Newry and Mourne!
From Friar Tucks opened sometime in the 1980's I've been a regular customer and when I lived away it was always my first stop when the bus arrived into Newry. In all them years I've only ever asked for one thing and that's what originally Friar Tucks became famous for and that was a Chichen Burger with PLENTY. The plenty means plenty of coleslaw as it's the best your going to get and the Chichen Breast Burger is top class chicken in a bap. If you want the meal deal it's chips and a drink added and the chips are lovely. Recently they are using eco friendly packaging which is good to see. I'm sure there are loads of really good bits on the menu but sorry to say I've never tried them as it's that Number 1 Meal for me. Don't take my word for it try yourself you won't be disappointed!
Horrendous place, horrendous owner of this establishment, absolutely disgusting .. do not go here folks , unless you fancy getting food poisoning or raw cooked chicken.
