Being passed back between open uni and student finance for the last 6 weeks, now apparently I told them I haven't been resident in Wales for the last three years ummmmm I've lived here permanently since 2015... And I have to wait for a form to arrive for me to fill in and send back to confirm my residency. And there I was thinking I could work part time and manage as a mature student as I'd have a grant to fall back on. As soon as one thing gets resolved with my application it seems there's something else that needs doing l, it's been approved twice already and then something else comes up. The staff were very helpful and polite on the phone but nothing seems to get resolved.
I have been with The Open University now since the beginning of 2021. If it had not been for Student Finance Wales providing me with the loans and grants necessary to undertake my degree I would never have been able to enrol in such a privileged educational position. My experience with SFW has so far been an overly complicated explanation of finances including the study year alignment with SFW applications, on time grant payments yet poor waiting times on the phone for assistance up to an hour as had been previously reported in reviews which I can confirm. However, the last time I phoned SFW I was actually through to a member of staff in less than ten minutes. Me, personally, my experience.... Thank you so much SFW for what you have provided. It is on me to complete my degree and it genuinely would not have been possible without your support and ultimately your financing. This company is absolutely scandalous. I wish I could give it negative stars. I can barely express how badly they have treated us. If you can possibly - don't use them. As a result of their treatment, my son will probably leave university. I will be posting more over the next few days.
Are you a local who wants to talk to someone in person and get some help and advice regarding university funding ? Or maybe you have a problem with your student 'loan' application ? Keep on dreaming , you wont get further than the reception. Apparently this brand new £90,000,000 facility is just a "call centre" .... Yes that's right. Not one person here will see to your needs and you will actually be made to feel incriminated as there is skinny lad hanging around by the entrance recording. Thanks for nothing.
Being told the process would take a couple of days and I am still waiting two months later. Very unprofessional and unhelpful… clearly following up after months of stress if I will be able to enrol and eat is not something worth caring about.
I'd give no stars if possible. I have wasted hours of my life trying to sort out my application, mostly because if you don't have a valid passport, SLC thinks you're an immigrant. Having finally or so I thought resolved my issue and received a letter confirming my funding , I receive another saying I Need to send further proof of Identity and address to confirm my welsh residency as allegedly - I told them that I have lived outside Wales in the last 3 years, which is simply not true. The amount of personal information these idiots want you to send through the mail is ludicrous, considering it's motives are presumably to protect against fraudulent claims and verify entitlement. If on the off chance, it is I, a fluent & native English speaker unlike the staff on the end of the phone who has made such errors, then that still only proves that the system and forms are anything but clear. Abysmal really, the truly sad thing is that students have no real option but to go through this shoddy company, who when complained to, just blame the government for their guidelines and business practices. But then again, they could be right - I mean, it IS a Labour Government after all.
Appalling service, rude advisors. Unable to provide basic customer service and constantly shift the blame of their errors to IT Systems and their processes. Unable to take ownership of issues and operate in a manner worthy of 1970's Civil Service.
I'm waiting forever in admin purgatory then eventually I speak to somebody named Zion or Dion who sounds spiritually drained or at the very least uninterested. At first he's helpful and has seemed to resolve my matter but instead of concluding the call, he tells me hold the line for a couple minutes...He never states why or what he hopes to do but I wait...Then after a couple minutes he tells me to wait again...No reason or purpose....Then I wait a very long time, Not wanting to be rude. I have no idea how long this new wait time is but the call duration was nearing an hour then they suddenly hang up. Personally I think it was a ruse or a wind up and the complaints procedure for this organisation isn't easy so instead I'll let them read it here. Unprofessional and unpleasant.
Deal with problems fast. Nothing to complain about. Do not take long to answer phone either which is another plus.
They are polite enough but keep you on the phone for ages cos they can't seem to grasp what you tell them, then they do nothing about it and you have to ring back a week later and go through it all again This is my third year of this and it usually takes 3 or 4 phone calls and costs a fortune each time. I wonder how much money they make by not dealing with their mistakes and making you call them back several times as they don't have email facilities...
