Very interesting tour of the family home of the Duke of Wellington. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The exhibition about the Original Duke of Wellington his life as a military leader and then politician was very interesting. The funeral carriage is rather spectacular. Well worth a visit on one of the days in the year it is open to members of the public. No photos allowed in the house which is to be expected as it is a family home. Book tickets on line for viewing the house as numbers as limited for each guided tour.
Wonderful place. Only open when the duke is away. Its a lived in house not like the exhibit houses of the national trust and English heritage. The guides had great stories of the duke, their families and friends. Tour takes about an hour and a half and it's full of information.
Stratfield Saye House is the home of the Duke of Wellington who defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. It is a private home only open for a short time during the year and entry is by guided tour only. Advanced booking recommended. The house interior is well worth a visit and the guides very informative about the history of the building and the Wellesley family. There is also an exhibition in the stables which includes the 1st Duke's impressive funeral carriage. Plenty of parking available and a nice cafe. Toilets also on site.
lovely house and gardens and very good guides to give you the back story and information. Surprisingly quiet when we visited as it's only open at Easter and in August I believe.
Tours only bookable on-line so less a visit more a reccy. Lovely aspect interesting to see the old coach house and displays. Will return for a proper visit soonVisited onWeekendReservation recommendedYes
So much historical significance and beauty in one place. Massive estate with huge historical importance that needs to be upheld and protected.

Beautiful house!
I took advantage of going to Stratfield Saye House as I happened to be in the area when it was open. The guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable. What should have been a 1hr tour was over 2hrs as we were given so much information. The grounds are beautiful. Good cafe also.
