Fantastic pub, there's a great atmosphere in here and the fact that they brew their own beer is the icing on the cake. The food is good and there's generous portions of it too - the chips are probably the best I've tasted in a pub which is no mean feat! As for the accommodation, they also own The Screes across the road which only opens as a pub during the summer months but the rooms are still used for guests so it can feel a little disconcerting to walk through an empty bar to get to your room. It's useful that the breakfast is served from 7 AM which is very helpful if you're planning a long day on the fells, for which the pub is perfectly located to access the Wasdale valley and the high mountain country around it. All in all a great pub which is well worth the visit!
What a great little pub, friendly atmosphere, warm welcome, quaint traditional surroundings too. We visited specifically for the amazing veggie and vegan options on the menu, and weren’t disappointed. The food was fresh and delicious the portions were big as well. Great little find in nether wasdale.Service: 5/5
Booked a table for one on Friday evening, I was staying just up the road and had been recommended this stunning place. Firstly the location is out of this world, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, and the food.... I ordered fish and chips and I was not disappointed the portions were huge and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this little gem by Wastwater!
We came here after a day of hiking and were so delighted to have some decent hot food. I was impressed by the vegan options available. It is worth booking in advance!
Such an amazing place , very very friendly staff , just feel like home! Very tasty food , breakfast included Such a lovely lady serving it in the morning and the fireplace is set for it Just amazing Plus the view of the Wast Water literally just round the corner Perfect place
Traditional pub, with it's own microbrewery, excellent selection of draught beers, very warm welcome, only stopped for a few drinks after a good walk around Wastwater. In a pretty little village. Food being served, plenty of lovely smells.
Quaint hotel in a beautiful location, staff are friendly and really helpful. Breakfast service and dinner was really nice. Would love to come back at some point soon.
Called in for a beer break, first ones in, and the lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. This is a typical oldie worldie country pub on Wass water. It's definitely worth a visitService: 4/5
Really enjoyed our stay here we were on for 2 nights, but we left the next day only because we had such a busy time at center parcs the week before we were ready for home. The food was great good vegan options for breakfast and dinner. Location was perfect if your looking at climbing scafell as we did, only 15 minute drive to national trust car park at wasdale head. Hence why we went home haha. Rooms are small but its what you would expect with such an old building turned into BnB, overall lovely time great atmosphere, would recommend and will return.
Pub food was terrible, clearly serving either the afternoon of previous days left overs for evening meals. Drinks were drinks, can't really go wrong with that. Disappointed considering the catchment area they work in. Highly unlikely to visit again.
