As every small town has small train station so is this one. Nice building like victorian style. Staff available at station. Good service by Anglia trains.nAll i had one prob, due to bridge works, half the car park cut and there’s no proper signage how to go on other platform which was a headache for me and other commuters. Hope they’ll manage it properly to make people’s life easy.
A very good station, Was served by a lady called Karen, she knew her stuff very knowledgeable she really could not do enough to help no question was too difficult, she never gave the impression like some others that i was a nuisance because I required service, she then passed me over to another wonderful lady in the ticket office as she was working on platforms who then checked again everything i required before i completed my purchase, an absolute credit to British Rail
The bridge works here are ridiculous, they take up so many spaces. The spaces themselves are tiny. Just missed my train because theres nowhere to park.
The station building’s nice and there’s a ticket office, small waiting rooms on both of the platforms and a convenience shop which sells hot drinks. Plenty of seating on the platforms too, which is good to see. I’ve found the station staff helpful.nnIt’s handy to have an hourly service from Stowmarket to London and Norwich in the other direction. There’s also more local services to Cambridge, Peterborough and Ely. Ipswich and Bury are well served by trains from here.nnThere’s level access to both platforms via ramps. My gripe is that you need to know which platform your train will be on, if you aren’t able to use the footbridge which is stairs only, no lift. Not great if you need to change platforms in too short a time to walk round over the level crossing.nnThe station’s got parking and is about a five minute walk away from the town centre which has a nice outdoors museum the Food Museum, which used to be the Museum of East Anglian Life.
I was a waiting on the platform as it was raining, around 9pm, for my partner to pick me up we got our timings wrong so I had 15 mins to wait, and the station lady checked in to make sure I had a lift or a train coming. I found this a really kind gesture and it made me feel very safe and comfortable. On a broader note - I always find the station clean and well looked after too. Thank you!
