I was a waiting on the platform as it was raining, around 9pm, for my partner to pick me up we got our timings wrong so I had 15 mins to wait, and the station lady checked in to make sure I had a lift or a train coming. I found this a really kind gesture and it made me feel very safe and comfortable. On a broader note - I always find the station clean and well looked after too. Thank you!
Like many small Towns it's got its fair share of empty shops, there's a few independent shops and the usual Charity selection, there's a couple national coffee shops + a couple of independents and a bakery, plus there's ASDA B&M QD Peacocks ALDI + Tesco's out of town.
A really beautiful building with poor facilities for a station on the mainline to London from Norwich.nnSo many opportunities for improvement but it's just not quite there.
The shops are a short walk from the train station, the main shops are Asda , boots , the works, QD, Gammers garage, Stowmarket store, Aldi, LIdl, B&M, wickes, to name a few along with Tesco, Costa coffee and mc Donald's a little further away. From memory.
Our Train reached Stowmarket at the exact time our connecting train was supposed to leave, the woman at the station refused to hold the doors for an extra minute so we could get on.nHer announcement was being made as we left the train, so we didn't quite hear it but regardless, she could see us running down the stairs and still insisted she couldn't hold the train, even though that's her job.nWe now have to wait an extra twenty five unnecessary minutes in the cold.
